WHAT YOU WILL DO

onX is seeking a Lead Senior Product Manager to lead the Where domain. Product Domains are cohesive and complex areas of our product experience with key problems to solve for our customers and our business that drive our platform strategy. Each Domain has a cross-functional leadership team that includes engineering and design, and may also include geospatial and marketing depending on the Domain - this role is the Product Management seat on this team. Each Domain encompasses multiple cross-functional product squads responsible for a subset of the Domain’s charter. This is a player/coach role - the ideal candidate is an established senior level product manager with the desire to lead others and play a larger role in product strategy, vision and team leadership.

The role requires careful analysis and balancing of multiple inputs and feedback and prioritization including customer feedback, conversion, engagement and retention metrics, internal feedback and ideas, competitive research and market dynamics, and company objectives and goals. The Lead Senior Product Manager also acts as the product manager for a squad(s), leading a cross-functional product team and working directly with other product managers, engineering, QA, geospatial content, operations, product design, product marketing, brand and customer service teams to ensure alignment and product success. An ability to lead and influence multi-functional teams across departments is paramount to ensure product success. 

The Where domain mission is to deliver the best outdoor content experience possible to our customers by producing the most complete, reliable, high quality and dynamic spatial data products through internal tools, value-based sourcing and industry leading map design. Working closely with partners in geospatial, engineering, cartography and product design, this role requires strong collaboration, communication, business acumen and strategic thinking to drive the team to create differentiated experiences that help customers decide where to adventure and know where they are when outdoors.

The ideal candidate has experience driving teams in complex content and/or informational solutions, solving problems for internal teams and ultimately external customers. Experience in creating holistic content management domains across multiple, complex, disparate data sources is highly desired. Demonstrated history working with partners and teams responsible for sourcing content, building technologies that facilitate the processing flows and deliver it to other teams or the end product is a differentiator. The ideal candidate will have strong product management skills as an individual contributor and be able to lead a small team of direct reports within the Domain. The ability to build strong relationships is essential, with your Domain peers, direct reports and across the organization. You should be adept at the skills, techniques, and responsibilities of a product manager and have the ability to quickly gain product, business and technical knowledge in a new company, and have the people skills that build trust and influence.

This position will report to the Senior Director of Product.

As a Lead Senior Product Manager, your essential job duties and responsibilities will look like: 

  • Put the customer first. Become deeply familiar with customer (internal/external) needs, the market, competitive and adjacent products.
  • Be data driven. Define and track solution key performance indicator metrics, understanding engagement as well as the impact on customer acquisition, conversion, and retention.
  • Understand, collaborate and help drive the underlying technical capabilities and systems of the onX technical ecosystem.
  • As a lead of the Product Domain
  • Be a collaborative leader. Create a high performing team working with cross-functional peers leading the Domain.
  • Create shared understanding of and vision for the Domain. Definition, articulation and evangelism of Domain strategy that creates cohesion and understanding of the Domain direction and priorities.
  • Ensure operational efficiency. Determine Domain squads organization and manage operations of the squads with your peers.
  • Communicate effectively. Ensure there is clear communication within the Domain and across the broader Product organization to peer Domains, Verticals (business lines), marketing, business development, and customer success.
  • Set Domain OKRs to align with company strategy and support the Domain strategy.
  • Set the direction of the Domain by participating in annual planning, informing long range strategic planning, and working to ensure appropriate prioritization and planning across Domain squads.
  • As a Product Manager of a domain squad
  • Lead a cross-functional scrum team responsible for an area of the Domain
  • Define the strategy for your product area, taking into account solution key performance indicators, customer feedback, company objectives, internal partner input, competitive and market dynamics.
  • Know and understand product development processes, working closely with the team to improve velocity and drive incremental progress on a daily basis.
  • Employ an experimentation approach to test and measure the performance of new tactics and strategies.
  • Continually strive to improve the customer experience, with a focus on product quality, reliability, and performance. 
  • Manage and communicate the squad roadmap across the domain and organization, ensuring alignment with engineering, product design, geospatial content, marketing, sales, and customer success teams.
  • Identify and develop product partnerships in conjunction with the business development team to improve both GTM success and user adoption and conversion.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: We recognize that product leadership expertise can be cultivated from a variety of professional backgrounds. We are looking for at least ten (10) years of relevant experience with at least six (6) of those in product management for an internet content/services business. 
  • Knowledge and experience with agile product development processes.
  • High tolerance for growth, change, and experimentation.
  • Self-starter with the ability to find solutions for unstructured problems.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to put together strategic product and business plans.
  • Collaborative, well organized and efficient, and has a strong bias for action.
  • Strong verbal presentation and written communication skills.

ADDED BONUSES

Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:

  • Preference for experience with mobile software and a product with a complex content/information ecosystem and/or mapping components and geospatial concepts. 
  • Technical background in data and experience with internal tools and data domains
  • Master’s degree 
  • Prior experience leading product managers, formally or informally
  • Previous experience with a product that goes beyond the screen and into the physical world
  • Experience working in an undefined product space and/or experience with a net new product or feature.
  • Passion for outdoor recreation activities

onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Talent Cluster.” 

  • Corporate Offices: onX’s was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.
  • Basecamps: onX’s Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.  
  • Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA. 
  • Talent Clusters: onX’s Talent Cluster locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members. 
  • Our current Talent Clusters are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $150,000 to $170,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
