Marketing Manager

We are seeking an experienced marketer to help us grow awareness and adoption of Lumen Learning’s courseware products in the Social Sciences and Business disciplines.

This role will play an integral role in ensuring market success of Lumen courseware across US higher education institutions. The candidate will know our competitors and how our product stacks up against them. They’ll also know our target customers, the segments they fall under, and what’s important to them. They’ll be comfortable using data and market knowledge to drive the targeting strategy and the development of positioning and messaging that resonates with our target market and empowers our team to be successful. The individual in this role will also collaborate closely with the VP of Marketing to identify the conferences and events Lumen should be a part of to effectively build out an event strategy for our target audience.

This role will work closely with the Product and Adoption teams to drive demand for Lumen courseware. They will be responsible for developing and executing a lead generation strategy and regularly reporting progress. Attention to detail and an eye for quality are critical, along with an ability to grasp and present our value proposition in a way that resonates and clearly articulates how we solve specific problems in higher education.

The ideal candidate will have strong strategic and project management skills, be flexible in fast paced environments, self-motivated, and have an outstanding track record working across teams to design and deliver quality marketing campaigns. As a critical member of the Marketing team, we need a phenomenal communicator and collaborator who is familiar with the current marketing tech stack, is excited to develop and execute lead generation plans, and has experience and interest in the US Higher Education market. The primary metrics for the position include:

  1. Creating and executing a marketing plan focused on lead generation for Lumen courseware in the Social Sciences and Business disciplines.
  2. Regularly reporting on performance of marketing tactics and identifying areas for improvement with goal of getting better results.
  3. Growing awareness of Lumen courseware options in key courses/disciplines.

Organization Alignment:

  • Reports to VP of Marketing
  • Collaborates teams across the organization, with most of the collaboration happening with Sales, Product, and Equity teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Market intelligence—be an expert on our customers, who they are, how they make adoption decisions, and their key criteria.
  • Understand the competitive landscape—be an expert on our competition, what they offer and how they are positioned.
  • Develop a marketing plan for the product you support focused on driving new adoptions.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Marketing and Product Manager to cultivate and manage external partnerships that support the growth in awareness and adoption of Lumen courseware.
  • Identify and execute event strategy (in-person and virtual) for target courses/discipline.
  • Understand and support our sales channels; develop internal tools and external collateral to share your value proposition.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • 3+ years of product marketing experience. We welcome emerging talent with relevant experience and the drive to succeed and grow.
  • Knowledge of the Social Sciences and/or Business market in US higher education is preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with marketing automation programs, such as Hubspot.
  • Data-driven mindset and decision-making skills.
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent people skills to interact with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams, and external partners/parties.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, while keeping priority projects on track.
