MEDICAL WRITER, Medical Affairs 

Job Summary

Our Medical Writers work closely with our Medical Directors by providing research and writing support and/or repurposing technically high-level projects in support of assigned teams and new business efforts. Projects may include slide decks, infographics, web-based and social media materials, meeting reports, strategic communications platforms and other materials requiring sound clinical judgment and excellent writing skills. Our Medical Writers interact daily with internal teams and have direct interactions with clients and therapeutic area experts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing research and writing support to assigned teams and new business efforts
  • Working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes a medical director, editor, graphic designers, and account personnel to accomplish project goals
  • Developing high-quality written materials that are scientifically accurate, fully referenced, appropriate to the target audience, and that meet communication objectives, client specifications, and industry guidelines
  • Producing slide decks, infographics, web-based and social media materials, meeting reports, strategic communications platforms, and other materials
  • Consulting with creative, medical, and varying internal teams to conceptualize and develop images, diagrams, animations, or interactive assets for assigned projects and/or new business pitches 
  • Incorporating feedback and revisions and addressing reviewer questions/comments
  • Developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge in relevant therapy areas
  • Contributing strategic recommendations and suggestions for continuous quality improvement on assigned teams
  • Understanding team/company expectations in terms of budgeted hours and deadlines, and communicating with team regarding these as needed
  • Attending meetings as required, including internal kick-off meetings, status meetings, and client calls

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD preferred) and excellent writing skills
  • Prior experience, preferably for a pharmaceutical and/or medical communications company
  • Ability to produce high-quality medical writing based on materials and direction supplied by a medical director
  • Aptitude for communicating complex scientific ideas in a clear, concise, accurate, and innovative way
  • Independent interpretation of scientific statistics and source materials including primary data sources, as well as published medical literature
  • Willingness and ability to work both independently and in a team structure
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and estimate time needed to write standard projects
  • Ability to perform all duties remotely and online, as OPEN Health is a paperless company
  • Enthusiasm, team-player attitude, self-motivation, and professional demeanor
  • Proficiency with PubMed searches and MS365 programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams), including figure and table development. EndNote experience is a plus.
