This position supports the Shared Services Law and Compliance (SSL&C) department within the General Counsel’s Office. The position will partner directly with enterprise business areas and attorneys to recognize, analyze, and evaluate complex legal issues and risks for Thrivent Financial and its affiliates and partner organizations. Enhances and protects the organization’s reputation by providing support for regulatory and legal matters. May act as the organization’s subject matter expert on various legal topics across multiple business lines.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts research as directed by attorneys in areas supported by Shared Services Law and Compliance, such as privacy, cybersecurity, business continuity, record retention, Anti-Money Laundering and financial crimes, intellectual property, vendor risk management/contracting, marketing, electronic communications, digital capabilities, data/information technology management & governance, artificial intelligence, and data analytics with other research and support as assigned. Track regulatory issues related to the areas covered by the SSL&C department.
  • Understands the functions, legal and business needs across SSL&C and the enterprise business divisions and departments supported by SSL&C. Maintains an understanding of multiple business lines, technologies, and continually updates knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment in which they operate.
  • Supports the organization’s goals and projects by conducting research and developing options and alternatives related to legal and regulatory issues and risk mitigation. Provides coaching and counseling to business partners as appropriate.
  • Independently identifies, analyzes, and researches legal issues within divisions, departments, and business units supported as appropriate. May work directly with outside counsel to resolve issues.
  • May lead other GCO initiatives or participate in enterprise-wide initiatives as appropriate.

Required Job Qualifications

  • College degree and paralegal certificate.
  • 5+ years related experience.

  • Knowledge of privacy, cybersecurity, business continuity, record retention, Anti-Money Laundering and financial crimes, intellectual property, vendor risk management/contracting, marketing, electronic communications, digital capabilities, data/information technology management & governance, artificial intelligence, and data analytics is preferred, but not required.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications and experience with tools used to evaluate, interpret, and analyze legal information, such as Westlaw, is preferred. Ability to learn and utilize additional systems knowledge and capabilities as needed.
  • Ability to work as a team, and individually, to solve programs that range from routine to complex.
  • Maintain high degree of integrity and confidentiality for sensitive and privileged information.
  • Work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

We accomplish this by offering a wide variety of market competitive compensation programs to attract, reward, and retain top talent. The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $77,988.00 - $105,514.00 per year OR $37.49 - $50.73 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
