Opportunity Overview:

We are looking for an experienced paralegal in the Boston, MA area to join our growing legal team. Serving as the immigration expert, you’ll be an integral member of the Legal function and of a cross-functional and collaborative team in a dynamic growth environment. The Paralegal will own the communications for the intake of immigration cases, collection of documents and information, and facilitating cases throughout the immigration process in coordination with Cohere’s outside immigration counsel. You will also assist the Legal team with maintaining the company’s corporate and Board of Director records, corporate governance and other general corporate matters.

Your immigration work will include:

  • Coordinate and manage PERM recruitment steps with external counsel and in-house team (including posting of NOF, intranet posting, working with stakeholders to provide guidance on resume review process)
  • Review and sign off Labor Condition Applications (LCAs) as well as immigration applications, petitions and other filings prepared by external legal counsel
  • Evaluate cases, communicate concerns, and proactively and appropriately escalate if/as necessary
  • Draft work and travel support letters such as TNs and B-1s for review and sign-off by immigration counsel
  • Manage status of all filed applications and petitions per policy and utilize data management and accounting/billing systems to prepare, monitor, and record all aspects of work
  • Conduct pertinent research as necessary to gather information, e.g. background on a company or industry, current wages, processing procedures, standard processing times, etc.
  • Make contact with government agencies to obtain information regarding any potential processing delays or problems and communicate the same to counsel, as needed
  • Provide employment data from internal HR systems to external counsel as part of the case initiation process
  • Work with external immigration counsel and various stakeholders to analyze and confirm case strategy
  • Partner with the People and Talent Acquisition teams in regards to immigration needs
  • Serve as liaison between the external immigration firm and the company
  • Maintain employment contracts
  • Ad Hoc projects

Your background & requirements:

  • 3+ years of business immigration paralegal experience, required
  • Experience working with the following case types: F-1 OPT, H-1B, L-1, TN, H-1B1, E-3, J-1, O-1 and employment and marriage based green card processes, required
  • Experience with corporate governance preferred but not required
  • Extensive experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office, required
  • Shows initiative, flexibility, resiliency and a willingness to adapt to change
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Outstanding organizational skills, with impeccable attention to detail
  • Excellent time management and project management skills and the ability to work on multiple complex projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to see projects to completion with limited supervision and a keen attention to deadlines
  • Adaptability and resilience in managing changing priorities and demands
  • Must be located in the Boston, Massachusetts area.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $90,000 annually; as part of a total benefits package which includes health insurance, 401k and bonus. In accordance with state applicable laws, Cohere is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including but not limited to qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and internal alignment.
