As a Patient Financial Specialist, you play a key role in assisting patients and their families in understanding their insurance benefits, cost share, payment plans, and any aspects of the patient financial account. Ideal candidates are customer-focused with a strong understanding of insurance coverage and how to review patient billing histories. You should have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. This role will act as a liaison between admissions, insurance companies, the patients/families, and the clinical team.
The right person will have significant demonstrated experience determining insurance benefits with strong verbal and written communication. Tactfully communicating details regarding coverage, benefits, and cost-share with various stakeholders while remaining calm is a critical function of this role. They will be process driven with strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment, solving problems independently, and comfortable with ambiguity as systems and processes are still being shaped.
Responsibilities:
- Understand nuanced coverage criteria by plan and determine in-network eligibility
- Enter and maintain patient records regarding coverage and coverage changes
- Respond to inquiries from insurance companies, patients/families, and internal teams
- Answer patient questions regarding claims coverage and benefits, patient statements, or any other financial inquires
- Work patient accounts to assure accurate balances regularly
- Collect and post patient payments, including tracking patient statements.
- Review accounts for high balances
- Set up payment plans
- Comply with all elements within HIPAA and the Privacy Act.
- Ensures weekly, monthly, and quarterly department goals are met.
- Represents Equip Health professionally and with a positive attitude.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient care and business
Requirements:
- At least 3 years of medical billing/insurance verification or financial counseling.
- Knowledge and experience with EMR and billing software programs required
- An understanding of how claims and reimbursements work
- Maintains good work habits, attendance and punctuality.
- Strong, professional communication and interpersonal skills with patients, clients, insurance companies, and internal team members
- Familiarity with HIPAA privacy requirements for patient information and ability to maintain and protect confidential information
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to problem solve.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Internet.
- Excellent customer service.

$52,000 - $60,000 a year

The pay range for this position in the US is $52,000 - $60,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We are open to compensation negotiations. This role can be located anywhere in the US.
