Lift Ventures, a U.S.-based remote-first startup studio whose portfolio of businesses has reached over 250 million consumers to date, is seeking a seasoned and talented People & Business Operations Manager for SuperSummary.com, our fast-growing EdTech business. SuperSummary is a subscription-based website offering a library of professionally written study guides and other educational resources on thousands of books for students, teachers, and readers of all types.
Having expanded our SuperSummary team over the last several years, we’re now focused on building out our Operations department to support our fully remote but highly collaborative company culture of approximately 30 core team members and 100+ freelancers located across the globe, primarily in the U.S. and Latin America. We are seeking a process-minded, analytical thinker with a people-first approach to play a pivotal role in fostering a positive and productive workplace culture.
About the Job
Reporting to the VP of Operations and supporting the Executive team, the People & Business Operations Manager is a generalist role at the intersection of Employee Experience and Business Operations. You’ll be responsible for optimizing processes that enhance both operational excellence and team success. Daily tasks will touch on disciplines including HR, communications, culture building, and organizational development. The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in an operations role at a small, high-growth company or startup where you’re accustomed to wearing multiple hats and supporting team members in all departments across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
People Operations:
- Team Management: Oversee and enhance the full team member experience, from comprehensive and standardized onboarding to seamless offboarding.
- HR Policy & Process: Manage HR administration, including payroll, compliance, benefits, and contracts, with meticulous attention to detail. Contribute to shaping HR Policy by conducting research and executing updates.
- Culture Building: Oversee team engagement and collaboration-building initiatives, ensuring we live our Core Values to both empower each other and embrace diverse perspectives.
- Knowledge Management: Develop and manage a company-wide communications strategy and a robust knowledge-sharing system. Oversee the team meeting calendar and maintain the team member handbook.
- Hiring: Play a key role in talent acquisition by coordinating recruiting projects, training hiring managers, defining roles, conducting candidate screenings, and managing the new hire offer process.
Business Operations:
- Strategic Planning: Facilitate quarterly Objectives & Key Results (OKR) planning and annual strategic planning, ensuring alignment with our biggest goals. Track OKR progress and maintain team accountability through structured reporting processes on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis.
- Company Communication: Prepare and deliver key communications, including quarterly All Hands Meeting presentations and monthly KPI reports, ensuring that information is clear, engaging, and accessible to all stakeholders.
- Customer Communication: Ensure consistent and effective brand messaging in all public-facing communications. Oversee the Customer Experience team, optimizing systems to deliver high-quality, highly efficient service.
- Resource Management: Oversee team tool/resource management, including monitoring tool access and usage, negotiating renewals with vendors, and conducting demos and evaluating new options to continuously meet team needs.
- Operational Projects: Lead and support cross-functional projects that require both analytical insights and a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Conduct research, build databases, outline project roadmaps, and design systems and processes that support continuous improvement.

- Communication: You excel in both written and verbal communication in English, making complex information accessible and engaging.
Sample Projects
- Turn a disparate set of team member resources into a fully functional, well-organized, and comprehensive team member handbook (wiki) in Notion.
- Collaborate with Customer Experience to evaluate and optimize both customer-facing and internal, customer-support processes.
- Systematize external communications to regularly update brand messaging on sites such as Glassdoor and TrustPilot.

Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in an operational role, ideally at a startup or small organization where you wore multiple hats
- Experience in a role that requires analytical problem solving, operational rigor, and outcome ownership
- Strong people skills
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Outstanding communication skills in English
- Strong project management, prioritization and multitasking abilities
- Technical proficiency with Google suite tools, productivity tools, tracking systems, and spreadsheets; and an ability to learn new software quickly
