What we are looking for

The Portfolio Manager will be a part of the Equilibrium Trading group, with the responsibility of working with Trading and Computational Science personnel developing virtual/physical bidding and financial trading strategies, performing daily trading results and power market dynamics analysis to feed trading strategy development, and managing assets under Equilibrium Energy direction. 

What you will do

Outline recommendations for trading strategy of Equilibrium’s portfolio

  • Work with the trading group to create and analyze trading strategies across all ISO markets
  • Develop the tools and processes needed to effectively manage and trade Equilibrium’s portfolio in the short-term markets  
  • Research power market dynamics such as powerflow to more accurately predict congestion and system lambda for use in trading strategies and asset optimization software
  • Support the creation and execution of hedging strategies for trading and asset management portfolios

Conduct data analysis and research that will affect our short and long-term strategy. 

  • Research and analyze fundamentals of electricity market supply, demand and grid congestion for daily trading in multiple ISO markets
  • Utilize platforms such as Python, Julia, Matlab, R and others to speed up the trading strategy research and results analysis processes 
  • Data mining and analysis to identify commercial opportunities

Serve as a member of our trading team 

  • Work as a member of the trading team to execute and evaluate trades for the short-term portfolio 
  • Occasionally support company resource operation responsibilities including submitting resource specific offers and outages in accordance with ISO rules. 
  • Develop analytics and presentation materials for use internally and in investor pitches
  • Support the development of analytics that inform trading fund reporting

The minimum qualifications you’ll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics or a related quantitative discipline. 
  • 3 years of experience in the energy markets in an analytical or trading role, ideally with nodal market experience.
  • Knowledge of US Electricity markets and power systems with direct experience with at least one ISO market
  • Ability to occasionally work evening/weekend hours and be on-call according to a defined schedule. 
  • Proficiency with Excel, SQL and/or programming languages such as Python, Julia, Matlab and R
  • Team-oriented and collaborative
  • Must be effective working in a fast-paced team environment, and able to see projects through to completion
  • Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently and as part of a group
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal, and organizational skills required
  • Demonstrates creativity, and independent thought when solving problems
  • Good understanding of business processes and data management

Nice to have additional skills

  • 5+ years of experience in electricity markets in an analytical or trading role, ideally with nodal market experience.
  • Demonstrated success performing analysis of and/or trading virtuals, FTRs and energy futures
  • Experience with hedge fund reporting and operations
  • Experience in multiple ISO markets 
  • Knowledge of power plant economics, operations and management preferred
