About the Role:
We are looking for a senior attorney to guide and drive our privacy and data governance activities. You will drive our privacy strategy internationally and across our affiliate organizations. You will identify and track global privacy obligations, draft and update policies and data protection agreements, and shape processes to manage global privacy risks and compliance across our various affiliate companies. You will also provide updates to our customers, financial service partners, and others regarding our privacy program. You will collaborate with our product and engineering teams to implement a privacy-by-design, secure, and customer-centric product design and drive cross-functional efforts to operationalize business objectives while minimizing privacy risks. You will work on some of the most exciting and challenging legal issues that impact fast-growth technology companies.
You will:
- Develop, implement, and scale Sardine’s privacy program
- Deliver privacy legal advice and guidance
- Track global data protection laws, regulations, and standards, and advise on them to provide guidance to business and product stakeholders
- Participate in large, cross-functional projects involving data governance, data protection, and data request tools and settings for our privacy-conscious customer base
- Oversee the drafting and regular updates to privacy-related notices, disclosures, transparency reports, policies, and procedures
An ideal candidate has:
- 8+ years as a practicing attorney, with 5+ years of substantive privacy experience, including in-house experience at a financial services company
- JD (license to practice law in the United States)
- Expertise in U.S. and international privacy and data protection laws, regulations, standards, and practices, including GLBA, GDPR, and CCPA/CPRA
- Comfort engaging directly with government agencies and regulators on complex issues
Bonus points for:
- Prior experience in fintech
- Familiarity with privacy laws specific to global financial regulatory frameworks (e.g. BSA compliance, PSD2)

You will:
- Join the business development team on calls with integration prospects to understand their needs and explain technical integration requirements
- Elicit customers' fraud, compliance, and payment use cases and pain points
- Conduct technical training and product demos specific to customer needs
- Hold scoping discussions with customers to capture all use cases and product needs in detail
- Work with the design team to build prototypes for new features and user experience workflows for how new features can live within partner applications
- Synthesize client feedback and make technical implementation recommendations
- Support clients' engineering teams
- Identify areas for improvement; communicate these issues and possible solutions to product teams and management
An ideal candidate has:
- 4+ years prior experience as a Sales Engineer, System Engineer, or similar roles
- Hands-on experience with API
- Demonstrated knowledge of compliance/AML requirements for financial institutions
- Prior experience with Risk/Fraud/Compliance/FinTech/Payments
- Good technical understanding and control of tools such as Postman and Asana
- Experience with UML
- Strong analytical skills: you can dig into the technical details of a problem and turn it into a proposed solution
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced remote environment
- Flexibility to work with clients globally
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
Compensation: Base pay range of $180,000 - $210,000 + Series B equity with tremendous upside potential + Attractive benefits
