We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Product Counsel to join our legal team, bringing expertise in advising on the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and its application to consumer reporting agency operations. As a crucial member of Plaid’s new consumer reporting agency subsidiary, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance and guiding the development of our cutting-edge products. Your insights and legal acumen will be instrumental in navigating the complex regulatory landscape and shaping the future of our offerings. You’ll operate as an embedded member of the product team and be trusted to be a key legal, business, and strategic advisor on complex legal, regulatory, and data privacy questions. 

The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, inquisitive, and solutions-oriented with prior experience advising at a consumer reporting agency. This candidate will possess a deep understanding of the FCRA and its implications for consumer reporting, particularly within the fintech industry, and experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate legal requirements into product development processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance on Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) compliance matters related to consumer reporting agency activities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, compliance, and product marketing to integrate legal considerations into the product lifecycle
  • Assist go-to-market and commercial counsel in deals, ensuring legal compliance and mitigating potential risks
  • Stay abreast of changes in relevant laws and regulations, and ensure proactive adjustments to company policies and procedures
  • Draft and review legal documents and disclosures related to consumer reporting and data protection
  • Work closely with external legal counsel when necessary and represent the company in regulatory discussions

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with an active license to practice law 
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal experience, with a focus on FCRA compliance and consumer reporting agency operations
  • Prior experience with consumer reporting agencies
  • Familiarity with regulatory examinations, ability to navigate and successfully respond to inquiries from regulatory bodies
  • Strong understanding of consumer protection rules and regulations, including UDAAP and GLBA, and data protection and privacy laws
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proven ability to provide practical and strategic legal advice to cross-functional team
  • Good sense of humor with a strong desire to grow and learn

$179,280 - $267,840 a year

Target base salary for this role is between $179,280 and $267,840 per year. Additional compensation in the form(s) of equity and/or commission are dependent on the position offered. Plaid provides a comprehensive benefit plan, including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k). Pay is based on factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience and skillset, and location. Pay and benefits are subject to change at any time, consistent with the terms of any applicable compensation or benefit plans.
