Company Description
Founded in 2013, Tidepool is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to making diabetes data more accessible, actionable, and meaningful for people with diabetes, their care teams, and researchers. Tidepool Loop is a project to build and support an FDA-regulated version of Loop, to be available in the iOS App Store, intended to work with commercially available insulin pumps and CGMs. Tidepool Loop is not currently available for use.
Job Description
In this role, you will be responsible for leading design initiatives, mentoring, and developing meaningful solutions for highly complex user problems faced by people living with diabetes and health systems/clinics. In this high-visibility role, we are seeking an entrepreneurial individual who is deeply committed to crafting exceptional user experiences, can cultivate influence, and create strong partnerships across the organization and externally.
Please note that due to the nature of this role, we ask that candidates are located within the United States or Canada (and are eligible to work in the United States).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leading end-to-end design projects by translating broad need statements from patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals into meaningful design solutions.
- Developing a deep understanding and empathy for people living with diabetes and healthcare providers and leveraging that feedback to advocate for product refinement/improvement.
- Building strong and collaborative partnerships with Product Designers, User Researchers, Product Managers, and Engineering to craft thoughtful solutions, ensuring all are aligned on who the primary user is, their needs, and the team's mission.
- Designing at various resolutions– from mockups, and high-fidelity designs to interactive or functional code-based prototypes.
- Supporting and/or leading exploratory research and usability testing in coordination with Product Designers, Product Managers, and User Researchers and synthesizing and translating findings to inform product decisions.
- Cultivating personal relationships external to the organization. Frequent external engagement with partners, users, and customers independently is expected.
- Building connections with internal and external areas of expertise in order to scale work, grow design team capabilities, and advocate for new tools and processes.
- Creating and delivering substantive, impactful, and persuasive communications and presentations to share your / your team's work. leveraging data, storytelling, and visual design to bring stakeholders along.
- Project managing working team(s) independently by developing excellent work plans and delegating effectively through clear direction on resources, stakeholders, dependencies, and realistic timing. You are able to adjust work plans to keep projects on track, drive implementation after a project ends, and look for additional ways to provide impact.
- Working closely with other Product Designers and product teams, e.g. UX Research and Engineering, to help facilitate critiques, develop new processes, provide meaningful mentorship, and support team culture.
- Setting the example of how to solicit and provide feedback within your team(s), across other teams, or with other leaders of the organization.
- Participating in design and product planning, sprint planning, standups, design studios, UX workshop sessions, and when requested, new employee recruitment and hiring.
- Implementing, maintaining, and evolving Tidepool Design Systems.
Qualifications
- Mission-driven and committed to furthering the impact of Tidepool’s work in the open-source software space and diabetes industry.
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Designer/Leader on a high-paced product-focused team.
- A portfolio you can share and discuss that demonstrates your design practice and background of seeing projects through the full product life cycle, and experience with modern design and prototyping software/tools (like Figma). Please be sure to provide any necessary passwords.
- Highly adept at presenting work in ways that best convey your solutions, e.g. wireframes, prototypes, final designs.
- Able to lead by example when presenting work, elevating user experience standards, and setting expectations on how individual contributors should “show up.”
- Masterful navigation of competing priorities and demands within a growing and evolving, rapid-paced work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain rich working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and internal and external teams.
- Depth of experience in design best practices, including a deep understanding of mobile and responsive web technologies, Android and iOS.
- Depth of experience in user-centered design, including usability and accessibility. Experience with creating data visualizations is a plus.
- Depth of knowledge of visual design fundamentals including layout, color, typography, and digital design fundamentals including light/dark mode and localization.
- A fearless and focused approach to execution. Executes quickly with limited guidance and can project manage large working groups independently.
- A dedication to learning and building comprehensive knowledge of the diabetes industry and healthcare space-at-large.
- Experience working with product teams in highly-technical domains involving data and hardware constraints.
- Deep industry experience is nice to have, e.g. healthcare, wellness, medical device experience, especially diabetes device or application experience.
- Experience with Human Factors Engineering, analysis, and reporting is nice to have.
Additional Information
