Product Designer (UX)
n2y is a national leader in creating and delivering educational materials and curriculum for the special education classroom. The company creates symbols, content and curriculum delivered using dynamic and interactive applications to students, teachers and parents. Its curriculum is used extensively throughout the United States, and the company has the number one licensable symbol set used to develop special education content.
We’re seeking an established and self-driven Product Designer (UX) to be a key member of our new design team within our Technology department. The ideal candidate has mastery over core design functions and has modeled best practices in prior organizations. This is an impactful role that will transform and scale key growth-stage products for teachers. This team works remotely based on Eastern time zone hours and may be required to travel for meaningful collaborative opportunities a few times per year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own the design function in a cross-functional PDE (Product Design Engineering) pod to conceptualize and deliver effective and intuitive product experiences.
- Shape key problems and strategic solutions with product managers and directors. Visualizations would include user journeys and task flows.
- Establish and implement new UX design patterns to reduce complexity and cognitive load.
- Report to the Director of UX Design and be part of our newly formed PDE org.
- Collaborate with developers for iterative product development delivery and accurate high-fi implementation.
- Craft design vision in Figma through end-to-end screen flows and mid to high fidelity prototypes.
- Conduct user research for identifying user pain points and mental models to create and improve design solutions.
- Contribute to building our foundational design systems, ensuring consistency and adherence to brand guidelines across products.
- Contribute fresh and innovative ideas from your wheelhouse of design trends, techniques, and emerging patterns in product design, AI, and workflow tools.
- Build the community, craft and culture of a new design function.
- Co-mentor an Associate Product Designer to learn design principles and practices.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- 3-6 years of professional experience as a Product Designer embedded in a cross-functional pod, preferably in tech startups or design-forward agile enterprises.
- A strong portfolio showcasing highlights of capabilities and approaches to tackling product challenges. This would feature your methodologies, key low-fi artifacts, and delivered output.
- A degree or certification in Design, UX, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field
- Strong design of tools of the craft mastery of Figma and Figjam
- Exceptional creativity in ideation, problem-solving skills, and a keen eye for typographic layout
- Mastery of user-centered design principles, systems thinking, and agile methodologies
- Effective and concise communication skills for effective distributed and async collaboration
- Demonstrated experience with conducting user research to iteratively improve your designs
- Understanding of how to use, contribute to, and maintain a Design System / Component Library
- Basic understanding of front-end development (HTML, CSS) preferred
- Interest in the education field or work experience at education technology companies preferred
- Previous wins in advocating for the strategic value of design and advancing design maturity in organizational culture preferred
- Embrace of strong knowledge management and workflow documentation in platforms like Notion or Coda preferred
- Up-to-date mastery of Figma best practices preferred
- A keen eye for content strategy and stylization in product experiences preferred
