Product Lead, Borrow

Posted Aug 29

Company Description

It all started with an idea at Block in 2013. Initially built to take the pain out of peer-to-peer payments, Cash App has gone from a simple product with a single purpose to a dynamic ecosystem, developing unique financial products, including Afterpay/Clearpay, to provide a better way to send, spend, invest, borrow and save to our 47 million monthly active customers. We want to redefine the world’s relationship with money to make it more relatable, instantly available, and universally accessible.

Today, Cash App has thousands of employees working globally across office and remote locations, with a culture geared toward innovation, collaboration and impact. We’ve been a distributed team since day one, and many of our roles can be done remotely from the countries where Cash App operates. No matter the location, we tailor our experience to ensure our employees are creative, productive, and happy.

Job Description

The Lending team’s mission is to expand access to credit for the 40M Americans with poor or thin credit. These individuals often struggle to make ends meet, and rely on predatory products like payday lenders or pawn shop loans. At Cash App Lending, we offer alternatives that are far cheaper, simpler, and straightforward.

Borrow, our flagship product, allows customers to get extra cash when they’re short. Our customers primarily use it to cover everyday necessities like groceries, gas, and bills. Demand for the product has been massive, making Borrow one of the fastest growing products at Block. We’ve grown 3x over the last year, serve over 4.5M monthly active customers, and provide our customers with more than $8B in access to credit each year.

We’re far from done though, and have ambitious plans to scale Borrow to all 40M Americans with poor credit. We’re looking for a gritty, driven Product Lead to lead us towards this vision. This role has significant executive visibility and is a top priority for the company.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Partnering with design and engineering to build a simple and delightful UX.
  • Partnering with the ML team to maximize access to credit within risk loss constraints.
  • Partnering with legal and compliance to keep us in good standing with our regulators.
  • Partnering with other product teams to weave Borrow into the broader Cash App ecosystem.
  • Driving cross functional and executive alignment around a vision and roadmap

Qualifications

Like us, you’ll be deeply committed to delivering positive outcomes for customers and passionate about shaping the future of Cash App. Additionally, we’re looking for:

  • 8+ years of product management or related experience delivering successful and innovative products.
  • Strong analytical abilities – ideally you’ve worked on ML or data-heavy products in the past, and are excellent at using data to make strategic decisions.
  • Strong product sense – you care deeply about design details and have great taste in design.
  • A driver’s mindset – you are biased toward action with no task too big or small.
  • A high quality bar – for the product, yourself, and the people you work with.
  • Customer obsession – you want to deeply understand our customers and make something great for them.

Highly preferred

  • Experience working in a high growth consumer business, whether FinTech or other
  • Experience leading and working with geographically dispersed teams
