Job Description

Are you looking for your next challenge? Join Taylor & Francis Group, a leading academic publisher, within our Books Production Editorial department at this exciting time of growth and opportunity. As a Production Editor you will oversee the production of new titles from receipt of the author’s un-copyedited typescript through to delivery of the final content, ensuring new books meet our quality requirements.

We are recruiting for two maternity cover Production Editors to project manage books across our Routledge and Taylor & Francis imprints. These comprise of 1 x full-time role (35 hours p/week) and 1 x part-time role (24 hours p/week). Both roles will be hired on a maternity contract basis of up to 12 months.

The key responsibilities are:

  • commissioning, preparing material for, managing and feeding back to external suppliers such as project managers 
  • maintaining up-to-date information on our database, and communicating with colleagues in other departments as necessary 
  • quality control of final content 
  • controlling schedules 
  • controlling budgets, assessing and coding invoices for prompt supplier payment 
  • liaising with authors if required, and providing necessary support 
  • completing multiple tasks to deadlines.

Full training will be provided.

Qualifications

What we are looking for:

  • a candidate accustomed to prioritising and working to deadlines, organised and able to multi-task
  • excellent attention to detail and the ability to identify spelling and grammatical errors
  • understanding of the importance of maintaining information relied on by others, ideally through experience of using a database
  • a good communicator, both written and verbal, able to represent the company professionally and contribute to a team
  • the ability to problem-solve and work on own initiative and as part of a team
  • aptitude and enthusiasm for working with new technology and dealing with people, adapting well to change
  • basic skills in MS Office including Word, Excel and Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • experience of working within budgets
  • a basic understanding of the publishing process from typescript submission to final content
  • a basic understanding of XML and ebook functionality.

Additional Information

What we offer in return:

  • Full time equivalent salary of £29,831 and £34,165 per annum based on experience level
  • 25 days annual leave (pro-rated for part-time)

  • This role will be based in  the UK and you must have the right to live and work in the UK. Taylor & Francis has flexible hybrid working options for how employees can work based on their role.
