Property Accountant

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review monthly income statements and variance reports, assisting with the preparation of audit workpapers. 
  • Analyze and reconcile accounts, perform accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close transactions
  • Manage GL/journal entry input and reconcile sub-ledgers, scanning GL for miscoding and inconsistencies. 
  • Verify cash transactions and prepare monthly reconciliations
  • Obtain draw request information from escrow/reserve drawdown.
  • Track monthly utility expenses, review tenant billings for accuracy. 
  • Gather lease information for property acquisitions and set up. 
  • Assist with audit requests, including general audit inquiries, preparation of schedules/reports, testing of internal controls
  • Analyze property-related transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance, and reasonableness
  • Assist with system and process improvements to enhance financial reporting and accounting efficiency
  • Assist developing and maintaining standard operating procedures and documentation
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and schedules for proper amortization, accruals, and true ups
  • Work with internal real estate team to ensure accurate presentation of accounting functions

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.  
  • Three (3) years experience in residential real estate accounting. Experience with GAAP accounting is preferred. 
  • Proficient in Excel and General Ledger/Property Management Software Program is required.
  • Experience with Propertyware is strongly preferred. .
  • Ability to effectively present and information and respond to questions from management, vendors, and associates.
  • Adhere to tight deadlines and quick turnaround for deliverables.
  • Strong written and oral skills.
  • Accurate with a strong attention to detail.
