Sales Manager
Description
Trala is a tech-powered online music school. We are the fastest growing music school in the world, with over 1000% growth in 2022. Our mission is to make world-class music education accessible to every single person on Earth.
Right now, music education is only accessible to the privileged, rich, and urban. Imagine instead a world where all 4 billion people who will pick up an instrument in the next 30 years could get a world-class education. That is the future we’re obsessed with creating.
At Trala, we’re pushing forward music education in three huge ways:
- We invented signal processing technology that listens to students play their real instruments and gives instant feedback on every mistake.
- We wrote the first major method of music instruction since 1954. It’s the first method geared towards adult learners and the first to prioritize accessibility and diversity.
- We personally match every student with a teacher to make sure there’s a great fit.
Over the last 6 years, we’ve gotten 600,000+ downloads of our companion app, taught lessons to students in 183 countries, and earned support from great musicians like Joshua Bell. Our students are ages 5 to 90 and live in rural Montana, Lebanon, tiny Pacific islands, Hong Kong, and our hometown of Chicago.
In the next 12 months, we will:
- Grow from teaching 2000 lessons/month to 10,000 lessons/month.
- Hire and train 100+ new teachers.
- Incorporate bleeding-edge technology like GPT into our teaching operations.

About the role
As our first Sales Manager, you will lead our talented team of sales reps responsible for being the initial point of contact for prospective students interested in taking private violin lessons. You will lean on your proven track record of success building, scaling, and optimizing sales teams to ensure our team is operating at peak best practice, consistently providing a delightful student experience, and always delivering against our achievable and sustainable growth targets.
Your mission is to ensure the success of our growing sales team. This will be achieved by cultivating a deep understanding of Trala's product, supporting your team in building rapport, effectively communicating our offerings to prospective students, and streamlining the process of signing up for private lessons.
You will have the unique opportunity to empower your team in their role as the initial contact with our students, as they listen to their stories and help connect them to accessible music education! As someone who has taken these calls before (yes, me, the writer of this JD), I've relished the experience of meeting passionate individuals from around the world who are embracing the violin for the first time.

- Attract, retain and grow a best in class sales team.

- Monitor and analyze key performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of the sales strategies and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to generate leads, improve lead quality, and test new messaging angles.
Success in this role is measured by achieving company growth targets, sales reps hitting their personal targets, and successfully hiring and ramping new reps
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience in sales management, preferably in education or music.
- Proven track record of meeting and exceeding sales targets.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Data-driven mindset with experience in analyzing and interpreting sales metrics.
- Comfortable with technology and able to quickly adapt to new sales tools and software.
- A musical background or passion for music education is a plus.

- Trala prioritizes diversity, inclusion, and righting economic and social wrongs in the music space. We strive to make our corner of the world a better place.

- Aaron: Sales Rep. Multi-instrumentalist and sound engineer. Maker of songs that get sold to Hallmark.
- Sam: CEO. Violinist and engineer. Architect of Trala’s musical pedagogy. Uses words like ‘pedagogy’.
