Senior Accountant
Summary
The Wikimedia Foundation is looking for a Senior Accountant who will be a member of the accounting team and responsible for assisting with the execution of daily accounting processes, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end close, and year-end tax preparation and audit processes in a fast paced, agile environment. This role will have a wide breadth of scope and may also be involved in special projects that will drive meaningful change within the organization. Under the supervision of the Senior Manager of Accounting, the Senior Accountant will partner with the Accounting team and other teams within the foundation to ensure that there are sufficient policies and procedures in place to provide effective support to existing and new program implementations.
You are responsible for:
- Assisting with the continuous improvement of processes and leading projects
- Documenting, reviewing and enforcing accounting policies and procedures
- The maintenance of the general ledger
- Involvement with daily accounting operations, which may include:
- Preparing monthly bank and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Month-end closing journal entries, including expense accruals and prepaid amortization
- Reviewing weekly A/P and expense reports, includes verifying the accuracy of coding
- Reviewing monthly credit card reconciliation and charges
- Assisting with month-end and year-end reporting
- Assisting with the annual audit and preparation of financial statements under GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations
- Additional duties assigned as required
Skills and Experience:
- B.A. Degree in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university
- CPA strongly preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive Accounting experience
- Knowledge and experience implementing accounting internal control procedures
- Knowledge of GAAP for Not-for-Profit organizations preferred
- Deep understanding of accrual basis accounting
- Strong accounting system skills (we use Intaact) & Excel skills

The Wikimedia Foundation is a remote-first organization with staff members including contractors based in more than 50 countries. Salaries at the Wikimedia Foundation are set in a way that is competitive, equitable, and consistent with our values and culture. The anticipated annual pay range of this position for applicants based within the United States is US$82,209 to US$124,839 with multiple individualized factors, including cost of living in the location, being the determinants of the offered pay. For applicants located outside of the US, the pay range will be adjusted to the country of hire. We neither ask for nor take into consideration the salary history of applicants. The compensation for a successful applicant will be based on their skills, experience and location.
