Senior Ansible Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Ansible Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the customer’s Ansible team to support various departments by troubleshooting, optimizing, and improving existing Ansible automations, with a focus on patching and SQL-related tasks. As a key technical resource, you will collaborate directly with the customer’s automation team to ensure the reliability and efficiency of automated processes, contributing to the overall performance of their IT infrastructure. This role will also involve on-call responsibilities to ensure 24/7 availability for critical automation support.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Customer's Ansible Team:

  • Partner with the customer’s Ansible team to identify automation opportunities and improve existing workflows.
  • Ensure alignment with the customer’s automation strategies and work together to implement best practices for Ansible automation.

Troubleshoot Ansible Automations:

  • Diagnose and resolve issues in existing Ansible playbooks and roles related to patch management and SQL automation.
  • Provide on-demand support to departments for Ansible-related incidents and outages.

Improve Automation Solutions:

  • Enhance existing Ansible playbooks to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with the customer’s teams to identify pain points and create optimized automation workflows for patching and SQL operations.
  • Implement best practices for automation and configuration management.

System Integration & Maintenance:

  • Ensure seamless integration of Ansible automation with various systems, including databases, application servers, and other IT infrastructure components.
  • Regularly update and maintain Ansible environments, ensuring compatibility with system updates and patches.

Collaboration & Documentation:

  • Work closely with IT teams, developers, and other departments to understand their automation needs and provide tailored solutions.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for Ansible playbooks, configurations, and related processes.
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers on Ansible best practices and automation strategies.

Monitoring & Performance Optimization:

  • Continuously monitor the performance of automation processes, making improvements where necessary to reduce errors and downtime.
  • Develop monitoring tools or integrate with existing ones to track the health of Ansible-driven workflows.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • 5+ years of experience in IT automation and configuration management with at least 3+ years of hands-on experience in Ansible.
  • Proven experience in automating patch management and SQL-related tasks using Ansible.
  • Experience troubleshooting Ansible issues in complex environments, including databases (SQL) and large-scale infrastructure.
  • Experience working directly with customer teams or in a client-facing role is preferred.

Skills:

  • Advanced expertise in developing and optimizing Ansible playbooks, roles, and modules.
  • Strong understanding of patch management processes and best practices.
  • Solid knowledge of SQL databases, with the ability to automate common SQL operations using Ansible.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and resolving issues in Linux/Unix environments.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud automation tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work closely with customer teams, understanding their needs and aligning on solutions.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a focus on delivering quality solutions.

Certifications:

  • Ansible certifications (e.g., Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation) are a plus.
  • Certifications in relevant technologies such as SQL, Linux, or cloud platforms are also beneficial.
