Our Design team is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Senior Art Director. This role is uniquely positioned to leverage your extensive design expertise and passion for cutting-edge technology to shape the future of our 800+ hyper-local magazines’ visual storytelling. You’ll play a pivotal role in exploring the use of automation and AI in template and magazine design, particularly using Adobe InDesign.  

Interviews for this opening will be conducted via video calls. This role is fully remote.

In a Typical Day, You’ll:

  • Develop and execute compelling visual layouts / templates for our magazine, ensuring consistency with content, brand identity, and editorial vision. 
  • Oversee the design and layout of many of our 800+ monthly magazine editions, ensuring high-quality standards and creativity are maintained.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines without compromising on quality.
  • Manage and collaborate closely with Designers, content creators, and the Marketing team to create visually engaging layouts that enhance the reader experience.
  • Explore and implement automation and AI tools in the design process, particularly with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Express.
  • Experiment with and evaluate new design techniques and tools to streamline production processes.
  • Work closely with junior Designers to create cohesive and captivating visual narratives.

To Land This Gig, You Need:

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in art direction, preferably in the magazine or publishing industry.
  • A proven track record of creating visually compelling, award-winning magazine layouts.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and other Adobe software.
  • An understanding of publication workflows and the ability to create new workflows. (Adobe Express or Firefly knowledge is a plus!)
  • A strong understanding and interest in gaining practical experience with automation and AI tools in design.
  • Exceptional creative vision and attention to detail.
  • The ability to conceptualize and execute innovative design solutions that engage and inspire readers.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
