The Position:

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer on Gameday team, you will use modern tools to add to and iterate on our features within the backend codebase. You will build engaging user-facing features by contributing your expertise, writing code, and making architectural decisions on a team of Product Managers, Designers, QA Analysts, and Engineers. You will contribute to the engineering organization and advance the product beyond the scope of just your team. You will report to one of our Product Engineering Managers.

What You'll Do:

  • Own and drive business-critical product areas including live video streaming, scorekeeping, fan experiences, and team management throughout our backend services.
  • Develop and maintain scalable, robust, and efficient backend services.
  • Lead projects Gameday team projects by collaborating with EM, PM, Design, QA, and other engineers across the company.
  • Drive changes to our API and SDK to facilitate server/client communication.
  • Collaborate on architectural decisions to ensure productivity + efficiency as our backend codebase grows.
  • Improve existing systems' performance, reliability, scalability, and develop new features.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Ensure system security and data privacy compliance.
  • Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for reference and reporting.

Who You Are:

  • Experience scaling a codebase to a large number of users and engineers.
  • Track record of successful projects utilizing Typescript and Node.js or another backend technology.
  • Experience writing scalable, performant server-side code.
  • A leader, willing to take ownership for the success of the team.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to communicate solutions clearly.
  • Strong background of successfully mentoring engineers.
  • Enjoys building a collaborative atmosphere to create solutions to complex problems.

Experience:

Our backend APIs are built with TypeScript, Node.js, Redis, and PostgreSQL and run in AWS.

  • 6+ years in a software development role.
  • 4+ years experience with Node.js or another backend technology.
  • 1+ years experience leading and implementing complex designs.
  • Experience with TypeScript is preferred.
  • Experience with a system deployed in an AWS environment is preferred.

The target salary range for this position is between $160,000 and $200,000. This is part of a total compensation package that includes incentive, equity, and benefits for eligible roles. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by several factors including experience, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We constantly review all teammate pay to ensure a great compensation package that is fair and equal across the board.
