The Role

We are in search of an energetic and dynamic Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be part of a talented, collaborative group at the forefront of exciting new ventures in the autonomous vehicle space. The Senior DevOps Engineer lives within the Technical Infrastructure team and will work on scaling the Saildrone software platforms through automation, tooling, and system optimization. They will work closely with engineering teams across the company to build highly available, low latency, and efficient services. Familiarity with running production environments at scale is crucial in this role along with an in-depth understanding of Linux systems internals, CI/CD workflows, and containerization.

  • DevOps engineers work closely with multi-functional engineering teams responsible for Saildrone’s SaaS platform.
  • This position assists with building, maintaining and improving the systems, services and workflows for the vehicle communications systems infrastructure.
  • This position includes common DevOps tasks such as improving workflows through automation, optimizing systems or tooling and developing CI/CD processes to improve business function. 
  • Engage in service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis, and system tuning.

Required skills and experience

  • Experience running production workloads on Kubernetes
  • Deep understanding of Linux
  • Skills in scripting languages, particularly Python and shell
  • Experience architecting new systems from whiteboard to production
  • Deep experience with CI/CD pipelines for compiled software & a history of automating and optimizing workflows
  • Fluency in SCM (e.g. Perforce, GitHub)
  • Familiarity working with containers (Docker).
  • Deep experience running production systems on AWS
  • Experience with Infrastructure as code tooling such as Packer, Terraform, Ansible, or Salt.
  • B.S. in a related discipline or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years of experience building solutions on IaaS platforms

Desired skills and experience

  • Experience with ML training, tooling and workflows.
  • Moderate experience with network operations (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, etc., MAC addresses, IP Packets, DNS, OSI layers, and Load Balancing)
  • Security and compliance training or certification

Location: This position is in Alameda, CA. Our waterfront office offers beautiful views of San Francisco Bay in always sunny Alameda. Even our walls have good karma, our offices mix software development with a hardware production line in the former airplane hangar used to film 'The Matrix'.
