Our next Senior Director, Accounting Operations is responsible for the ownership of TerrAscend’s transactional accounting process including the processes related to cash receipts, invoicing, collections, accounts payable, customer and vendor management, and working capital forecasting. This role optimizes the tools available and develop their team to streamline processes in the quarter and year reporting cycles, focus on continued process improvement to achieve increased results each cycle, and bring prior experience to the team for idea generation to achieve our goals. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Finance.

You will work closely with finance leadership and functional leadership to support the advancements of the Order to Cash and Record to Pay teams and adherence to internal control and regulatory compliance.

Where you'll be planted:

This is a remote position. We are giving preference to candidates located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, or Michigan, as these are the markets that the majority of our operations are in. Some travel may be required for business meetings and other on-site events.

To be blunt, this person will:

  • Lead the transactional accounting operations for the enterprise.
  • Lead the transactional accounting processes to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions including but not limited to cash application, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and expense management.
  • Oversee the transactional accounting operations team, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives and the development to continue to strengthen the functions within the business.
  • Lead driving and executing the order to cash and requisition to pay needs of the organization and support the achievement of key goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze payables and receivables, ensuring optimal utilization of funds including the optimization of working capital. Partner with Treasury for cash planning on receipts and payables planning.
  • Lead the preparation of consolidated receivable and payable reporting and analysis for transparent reporting and goals of improving the company’s cash conversion cycle.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounting transactional entries and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP requirements.
  • Responsible for the required provisions related to allowances for bad debt entries.
  • Responsible for relevant monthly accounting and quarter-close, SOX compliance controls and processes as it relates to accounting operational internal controls in your area.
  • Responsible for the timely execution of Cash, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable monthly close processes accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to address and resolve sales and/or supply chain issues promptly.
  • Partner with business and functional leaders and other stakeholders to service the businesses needs as it relates to accounting operations and improvements.
  • Seek opportunities and drive incremental improvements to streamline processes.
  • Lead quarterly reviews and annual audits with internal and external auditors as it relates to accounting operations.
  • Manage the completeness and accuracy of the regulatory filings including on time compliance such as 1099 reporting.
  • Responsible for reviewing, monitoring, and enforcing financial policies and procedures.
  • Lead as a subject matter expert over transactional accounting activities and actively participate in new technology implementation of systems in partnership with enterprise Finance teams including development of streamlined and efficient financial processes.
  • Engage with business leaders and provide guidance based on calculated and well thought out recommendations, act as a trusted advisor to drive insights.
  • Support development and process improvement efforts in the accounting operations function in collaboration with partners to continue to strengthen the function as we grow.
  • Provide ad hoc monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting as required.

  • Bachelor’s degree or MBA, or equivalents, in Finance, Accounting or related discipline
  • 8+ years of combined experience of accounting operations and management experience.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP, SOX, and SEC requirements.
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred (CPA or Chartered)
  • Able to build and sustain strong relationships at multiple levels internally and with partners; high emotional intelligence and an ability to challenge in a nuanced way; influencing areas of the business that are not under direct control will be critical.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end corporate transactional accounting activities
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a manner conducive to our company’s core values.
  • Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, in an ambiguous and developing structure.
  • Proven track record as a people manager as well as an individual contributor
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office including, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Analytic problem solving, solutions oriented.
  • Strong Written and Verbal Communication, ability to write clearly and concise.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent organization abilities
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

  • Preferably located in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland or Michigan.

$165,000 - $195,000 a year
