Senior Editor (DHS)
DCG Communications (DCG) is seeking a creative and seasoned Senior Editor to join our rapidly growing communications team supporting a federal client whose mission is to prevent targeted violence and terrorism. The Senior Editor will work as part of the communications team responsible for implementing a variety of communication products and tools, proactive strategies, and effective distribution processes. They will be responsible for copy editing, proofreading, and reviewing to ensure all content meets the client’s style guide, applies accurate grammar, and represents the high standards DCG seeks to uphold. Writing new and updating current communication products will also be expected from the Senior Editor.
Our ideal candidate can dive right in; understand the sensitivities and nuances of working with federal clients and provide guidance and teaching to improve our diverse team’s writing and content development. We are looking for a Senior Editor with a deep experience and desire for editing, and a natural ‘word nerd’!
Location: At DCG most of our team members, including this role are remote. With over 100 employees based in 27 states (and counting!), DCG is committed to hiring talented employees across the United States. The selected candidate will work during DCG’s core Eastern Standard Time business hours.
Position Requirements:
- BA/BS in English, journalism, or a related technical field (or the equivalent education and/or experience)
- Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of relevant experience
- Experience developing and writing in a variety of communication formats and styles, including but not limited to press releases, blogs, presentations, social media, talking points, and fact sheets, with the ability to grasp tone and voice of the audience
- Ability to work on multiple projects and manage multiple deadlines while communicating effectively across internal and external teams
- Proven ability to liaise and develop trust and rapport with clients including listening attentively, asking thoughtful questions to better understand their needs, offering solutions, confirming agreed-upon next steps, and setting timelines in alignment with the needs and requirements of the client
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Security Public Trust clearance
- Possess a high degree of professionalism, both with client and internal team communications and interaction
- Knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines
