We are looking for a manager to be a part of the Channels Relevance team and lead a group of 6 to 8 machine learning and software engineers. Channels team has a mission to build strong user habits by sending the right amount of personalized content to the right user at the right time using the right channel. Our systems operate at scale, sending hundreds of millions of notifications daily across push notifications and emails. Notifications are one of the most proven and predictable levers at Reddit to drive user growth, retention and engagement. 

As a Senior Engineering Manager on Channels Relevance you will support a team of ML and Software engineers, own critical strategic goals for the company, make product tradeoffs that build delightful customer experiences, communicate with stakeholders including leadership and build a high performing healthy team.

What you do: 

  • Support a team of 6 to 8 ML and software engineers building the channels relevance models and services. 
  • Develop the vision and the roadmap for one of the most business critical ML teams at Reddit responsible for a large share of user growth
  • Build, grow, and mentor a team of exceptional machine learning engineers and software engineers
  • Establish technology and product goals in collaboration with tech leads, partners, clients, and executive leadership.Drive project planning, prioritization, and resource allocation to meet both the long-term and short-term goals.
  • Have a data driven approach to identify critical problems to solve for user growth and retention, translate them into actionable projects and deliver on these projects seamlessly. Make the right product and engineering trade offs to deliver on a good user experience. 

Who you are:

  • An Senior Engineering manager that has at least 3+ years of experience supporting high performing teams. 
  • A seasoned engineer who has experience building machine learning models and scalable services. A good coach for engineers on technical aspects including code reviews or design reviews. 
  • Working knowledge of ML model training, evaluation, benchmarking and publishing. Proficient in building online services that scale to millions of users. 
  • A solid collaborator who can work with other disciplines and teams to solve complex ambiguous problems. 
  • Able to ruthlessly prioritize across multiple stakeholder requests with a focus on driving impact and building great customer experiences. 
  • Education and or industry experience in Software engineering or Machine learning is preferred. 
  • Prior experience in building growth products/ML models for consumer products is preferred but not necessary.

In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units, and depending on the position offered, it may also be eligible to receive a commission. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including, skills, depth of work experience and relevant licenses/credentials, and may vary from the amounts listed below.

The base pay range for this position is:

$222,800—$334,200 USD
