Job Description

The Senior Manager of Search leads diverse teams responsible for foundational technical and product capabilities that support search at Reverb, specifically the product catalog (structured data) and search (ranking, operations) teams. As leader of these teams, you’ll shape our technical foundation through thoughtful, pragmatic transformation of our technology, process, and team.

You’ll serve as a member of the Engineering leadership team and report to the Director of Core Engineering. This is a full-time role that is open to remote hires within multiple states as well as candidates local to Chicago, IL. Responsibilities

  • Mentor, coach, and grow your team, with a focus on empowering managers and technical leaders. Prioritize hiring and attract top talent.
  • Shape the vision and technical strategy for your domains.
  • Break down barriers for your teams and the organization, in particular those that span teams, functions, or departments. Create alignment to ensure successful execution of key initiatives.
  • Participate and inform the selection of and ongoing partnership with key vendors.
  • Hands-on coding won’t be a major part of your job, but you’ll build empathy and insights by making occasional technical contributions.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of engineering leadership experience, including a consistent track record to effectively hire, lead, and grow managers and engineers
  • A track record of successfully navigating large initiatives with complexity across application and infrastructure layers through strategic leadership
  • A history of deeply collaborating with engineering leaders and cross-functional partners within Product and beyond to achieve shared goals
  • Deep familiarity with one or more of the following areas at scale: Lucene-based search systems (ElasticSearch or Solr), search ranking and retrieval, data science, or information taxonomy
  • Familiarity with music gear, online marketplaces, or e-commerce is a plus
