Loyal is working on bringing to market the first drugs intended to extend lifespan (years of life) and healthspan (quality of life). We aspire to build a pharma brand people love around deeply technical products. While we are currently focusing on dog drugs, our ultimate aim is to take what we learn in dogs to leapfrog into human aging drugs and build a company that catalyzes and captures the public’s excitement around aging therapeutics.

We are seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to join the Data Science and Engineering team. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to make the transition from more traditional technology companies to working in biotech and aging. 

As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you will work across the stack from web interfaces and databases to data pipelines and operations. Our team of data scientists and engineers work together to support two critical areas of our company: scientific research for drug discovery and bringing products and services to the public. On our cross-functional and dynamic team, you will collaborate with other engineers and scientists throughout the company; getting to know the longevity drug pipeline end-to-end. You’ll see your work directly impact the development and deployment of longevity treatments.

The most important tasks you will take on are:

  • Work across the tech stack to solve both customer and internal problems
  • Develop and support Loyal’s public web properties
  • Develop and support internal business applications helping our clinical research teams and improving company operations
  • Support new and ongoing research projects by creating and managing data pipelines, databases, and migrations
  • Work to improve the operational maturity and health of our engineering and data science teams; grow adoption of good engineering practices across data engineering and data science disciplines
  • Work collaboratively with team members from many different professional disciplines in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment

About You:

  • Experience working with Python in either in web or systems programming environments
  • Experience with React or Next.js
  • Experience working with Terraform or some other cloud orchestration tool is preferred
  • Exposure to statistical analysis in R or Python
  • Passion for data 

Requirements

  • 5+ years experience working as a software engineer as part of a software team
  • Demonstrated experience using JavaScript and CSS to implement responsive designs in frontend web applications
  • Demonstrated experience with a major web backend language, including building web backends
  • Demonstrated experience with rapid prototyping and iteration to model and support business processes
  • Demonstrated experience working with SQL and relational databases
  • Strong writing and communication skills

Tech stack:

  • On the backend, our web services and data pipelines are implemented in Python and Django
  • Our frontend is built in React/Next.js, and hosted on Vercel
  • Infrastructure built on AWS, orchestrated with Terraform
  • Async GitHub workflow, CI & deployment built on GitHub Actions
  • Statistical models for scientific projects are built in either R or Python

The reasonably estimated salary for this role ranges from $140,000-$210,000, plus a competitive equity package, and benefits. At Loyal, compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Oftentimes we consider candidates in various skill ranges to allow for a variety of individuals to be considered for a role.
