Senior Marketer

Maven is the gold standard in post-grad education for product, design, & engineering professionals. We’re looking for someone to build our community-led growth engine from the ground up.

Role Overview

We have 50K+ student alumni, 500K+ registered users, and 500+ expert instructors. Our early traction came from the social audience of our instructors: their content is authentic and valuable, and their followers engaged. Instructors like Satish, or Tal are building their personal brand on LinkedIn, and their bios link directly to their Maven course page. Our students are on LinkedIn too. They share about our free Lightning Lessons, like herehere and here; they post their course certificates, like thisthisthis, and this; they recommend a course that was a game changer for them. (They also talk about what they are learning with their colleagues, and share on slack, but we don’t have links for that!). Our Co-founder-CEO is a LinkedIn top voice writing about career growthhot takes on post-grad educationtechnology trends & professional excellence. We have the foundation for powerful WoM and organic social reach. Your role is to leverage this opportunity to achieve explosive growth: you’ll shape your own strategy, build, test and learn with ownership and accountability. Your KPI is Maven-led traffic to course pages (example). Your responsibilities are:

  • Social: Develop a vision for our social brand and community-led growth, then make it happen.
  • Growth: Ideate execution tactics, test and learn to find the winning angle, then scale.
  • Content: Create everything from templates for instructors, to big editorial moments for our brand.

Team & Culture

This role reports to Vanina (Head of Marketing) and works alongside Rachel, who owns all our current demand initiatives. Maven is committed to having a small, empowered team (currently 20 total), so you should be excited to do your own customer research, strategic thinking, content execution, and day-to-day operations.

We are high-ownership, but we are also high-collaboration. We all post regular status updates to dedicated slack channels to get input. If you’re blocked everyone is there to help (but otherwise we’ll assume you’re on it). This makes Maven a great cross-functional learning environment. Expect direct feedback!

Ownership, collaboration and feedback are not just nice ideas here; we are fully remote, so they are the foundation of our success, and we are intentional about them. We are a writing-focused company, with no-meeting Wednesdays for creative space. We gather for a week-long offsite twice a year so everyone in our lean and talented team can contribute to company strategy, and get absurdly competitive over random games.

What We’re Looking For In This Role

  • Experience leveraging community, WoM and social distribution to drive business growth
  • Evidence of exceptional taste in brand and content decisions
  • Mastery of the written word, especially on social, but not only
  • Stretch between strategic thinking and hands-on execution power
  • Quantitative understanding; we run analytics on Amplitude and Metabase
  • Marketplace experience a plus, but not required

Compensation

$160k-$210k in salary, with strong benefits, and equity.

Location

Remote; US time zone +/- 1hr

Who We Are

Maven is reinventing professional education. Instead of taking 2 years for a Master’s, we believe professionals should learn every year, from real-world experts. Our marketplace has over 500 cohort-based courses focused on the critical skills needed to succeed. We encourage you to explore them, and read their reviews, to get an idea of the transformative learning experiences and career growth that we enable. And then think about what Maven could be, at scale.

We are founder-led; our CEO, Gagan, co-founded Udemy, and our CTO, Shreyans, was the first engineer at Venmo. Our small team is incredible and momentum is building; we grew over 100% last year. We've raised $25 million from Andreessen Horowitz, First Round, and a supportive network of industry angels. Join us to do the best work of your career, and help build the university of tomorrow.
