Are you a payroll professional looking to put your experience to use, by finding ways to do things more efficiently while providing excellent customer service? We’re looking for a Senior Pay and Benefits Specialist to join us at Thinkific. 

As a Senior Pay and Benefits Specialist  at Thinkific, you will be responsible for overseeing end-to-end payroll cycles and benefits administration. Reporting into our Controller, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, you will maintain and update new hire and employee terminations, respond to inquiries regarding pay and benefits in a timely manner and additional administrative support as needed.

Your goal will be to act as a subject matter expert in all things pay and benefits at Thinkific. Here’s how you’ll accomplish this:

  • Oversee full payroll cycles for all Canadian employees, including setting up new hires, updating current employee information, processing terminations, ROE’s, bonus payouts and commission payments
  • Oversee the payroll cycle for all international employees through Deel 
  • Manage new hire administration and respond to employee inquiries regarding pay and benefits, including employment verifications
  • Assist with year-end duties including T2200’s and T4’s 
  • Administer and calculate benefits programs (eg. vacation accruals, short term health and parental leave top-ups, PSA/HSA contributions)
  • Process benefit enrollments and changes through Sunlife andLifeworks, including enrollments, terminations, and extension of benefits 
  • Process changes to equity based compensation through Shareworks including updates to demographic information, Employee Share Purchase Plan contributions, and other equity administration 
  • Review and identify opportunities for process and control efficiencies
  • Conducts monthly & quarterly audits and reviews of benefits enrollments
  • Reconcile Group Insurance monthly invoices and maintain a wide variety of payroll information in electronic formats for business continuity and audit trail for compliance

The person we have in mind likely:

  • Has 3+ years of experience in Payroll & Benefits Administration or similar role in a fast-paced environment, with a strong understanding of Payroll legislation in British Columbia, Alberta, and Ontario 
  • Is experienced working with Payroll and Benefit Insurance systems with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Has the ability to shift priorities, work under tight deadlines, and communicate effectively 
  • Is a collaborative team player, they’re always looking for opportunities to be proactive 
  • Is eager to find opportunities for improvement andefficiency while ensuring data-integrity and confidentiality 
  • Possesses a high level of adaptability—they can switch gears if plans suddenly change and are able to independently find creative solutions to problems
  • Loves to learn and grow! They’ve found (and keep looking for) ways to level up their skills in this field, whether that’s through formal education, gaining professional experience, or maybe even building their own business 

These things would also be nice, but we think you could learn them on the job: 

  • Experience with Mac OS and Google Suite
  • Previous experience with Rise, BambooHR, Guru, Shareworks 
  • Payroll or Group Benefits designation 
  • Familiarity with Radical Candor and delivering feedback
  • An ease to strike a balance between taking work seriously and having a sense of humour
