Senior Product Designer
Apella is applying computer vision, machine learning and NLP to improve the standard of care in the most critical aspect of healthcare; surgery. We build applications to enable surgeons, nurses, and hospital administrators to deliver the highest quality care.
We are building our Product Design team and need brave individuals who are not afraid of rolling up their sleeves, jumping in, and working in highly ambiguous problem spaces to improve them. Our Product Design team will partner with other Designers, Product Managers, Engineers, Clinical Advisors, and Customers to create an intuitive product experience with our product roadmap in mind.

You have
- 5+ years of experience as a Product Designer working with tools like Figma, Adobe XD, or Sketch
- Experience building and shipping products on both mobile and web within a large-scale, ambitious domain
- Breadth of design skills - comfortable owning and balancing projects at various points of the product development lifecycle - product discovery all the way to implementation and measuring success
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (can effortlessly outwit ChatGPT or Bard in a battle of puns and wordplay)
- A data-driven mindset that results in intuitive outcomes for customers - you understand which decisions require extensive research and data to back them, and which don’t.
- A strong propensity for expressing ideas through visuals and prototyping
- Bonus points for individuals with experience in healthcare technology or with AI/ML products
- Also bonus points if you have proficient too advanced competency in HTML, CSS, or Javascript
You will
- Be the customer’s biggest advocate - Keep the customer at the heart of everything we do by thoroughly understanding customer needs, perspectives, and goals. Engage with customers regularly, drive research initiatives, and incorporate customer feedback into designs. Use design tools like personas and journey maps to build a shared understanding of the customer with the team.
- Design solutions across our product experience - Balance customer needs with business objectives and technical limitations, using your skills across research, user experience, interaction design, and visual design to create solutions. Employ a collaborative and iterative approach to improve designs.
- Contribute to our product vision - Gather input from engineers, product managers, clinical advisors, leadership, and other designers to develop a journey-based approach to product design. Collaborate with the product team to prioritize and scope work.
- Work closely with product managers and engineers - Ensure we deliver a high-quality product experience by collaborating closely with product managers and engineers throughout the design and implementation process.
- Contribute to our design system - Collaborate with designers and engineers to create, improve, and help scale our patterns and components that can be reused across different parts of our product experience.
- Contribute to our design team culture - Help scale our design rituals, maintain our high quality standards as our team grows, and work on cross-functional challenges while pairing with other designers.
