Senior Product Designer
Grow Progress is seeking a Senior Product Designer to help many of the most influential groups in Democratic politics and social good advocacy maximize the number of people they persuade in a critical year.
We are a quickly growing team of more than 40 people who are passionate about building cutting-edge persuasion technology. We power breakthroughs in persuasion by helping strategists to more deeply understand the people they’re aiming to move — not just how they look, but how they think. We then give strategists the ability to scientifically test their messages at a radically accessible cost, so they have the freedom to test more creative strategies.
If you want to make a big social impact and grow your skill set by building products from the ground up, we hope you’ll apply.
About You
You’re a seasoned designer in the middle of your career with a particular proclivity for working on design systems and executing polished user interfaces. Ambiguity excites you, and so does making stuff; you’re committed to being iterative and experimental but ready to use data to back up your decisions; you’re prepared to have strong opinions and to express them, but you understand your role as the facilitator, engager, and synthesizer; you’re constantly thinking about frameworks and processes that will help align your team while centering the user.
In addition to your hard skills, you also bring an above-average amount of empathy to your work. You think deeply about others and are committed to continually improving how you communicate and build relationships with both users and your coworkers. You are the person in the room thinking the most about those with the least; you dream of a more accessible, inclusive, and equitable world and are constantly envisioning ways to build towards it.
What You’ll Do:
In this role, you’ll practice product design as a full-stack sport. You will conduct user research, design new features, and work with product and engineering to bring new products to the market. You will be expected to move fluidly between the macro and micro, paying as much attention to the execution of the corner radius of a button as you do to the interdependencies between large product areas.
What You’ll Bring:
- A portfolio of projects that demonstrate your experience working across the product development lifecycle from user research to prototyping to implementation
- Strong visual design skills and aesthetic taste. A demonstrated mastery of fundamental graphic design, such as color, composition, typography, and visual hierarchy
- Advanced knowledge of product design software such as Figma, Sketch, or Creative Suite and a knack for picking up new tools quickly
- Strong stakeholder and upward management skills; experience turning your ideas into narratives that drive alignment
- A proven commitment to clear, inclusive communication and experience collaborating with all kinds of people
- A passion for politics and progressive change
- Current U.S. work authorization
Bonus skills and experience/Opportunities for growth:
- A gift for facilitating collaborative, engaging design exercises remotely
- Experience building and maintaining user research repositories
- Academic or real-world familiarity with polling, political psychology, scientific experimentation, and/or political campaigns
- Technological experience with survey platforms, performance marketing, and/or ad testing
What We’re Looking for in a Teammate:
- Ownership mindset: You’re comfortable owning the day-to-day process of figuring things out where there isn’t yet a roadmap. You will need to solicit requirements from other stakeholders and then generate clear proposals to build buy-in from them, rather than waiting to be asked.
- Iterative: You’re comfortable shipping minimally viable products quickly and then revising iteratively, rather than waiting to build a perfect foundation first.
- Goal-driven: You set clear priorities and deadlines for yourself and teammates, and you keep track of them to share your progress with others.
- Resourceful: You generate creative solutions with limited time and resources in a fast-paced environment.
- Test-driven: You think in terms of success criteria and then testing out whether your solution achieves those criteria by getting feedback from users, both externally and internally.
- Analytical: You can understand a data-driven product. You don’t need to be a “quant,” but you need to be comfortable learning about technical concepts.
- Clear: You can translate data into accessible language and visual narratives for people who aren’t quantitative. You enjoy writing clear user stories to help your teammates align on the specific pain we’re aiming to solve for users.
- Open: You are comfortable disagreeing agreeably about tradeoffs and honest when you don’t know the answer or something doesn’t work out the way you hoped. You encourage teammates to step back from narrow solutions to see the broader opportunity space.
- User-focused: You are able to quickly learn about the motivations and pain points of new and diverse customer segments and can translate for them.
- Adaptable: You are comfortable having your role change as the company grows, and you don’t mind quickly changing course when evidence suggests we need to.
- Fun: You have a sense of humor, even when working through challenges.
- Mission-driven: You care about our mission and having a huge social impact!
