Senior Product Designer

Posted Jan 18

At Skillshare, we’re building a global community of curious, lifelong learners and we’re excited to welcome a Senior Product Designer to the Growth or Member Experience product teams. We strive to provide every teacher and student with a frictionless and beautifully-designed learning experience. In this role, you’ll work closely with product, engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to improve outcomes and push the boundaries of our product.

You will be embedded on a Product Pod, partnering directly with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional stakeholders to develop the strategy for your Pod and ultimately bring that strategy to life. You will need to skillfully navigate the intersection of user-centric design and business objectives, ensuring solutions that effectively meet both user and business needs. You’ll champion design and systems thinking in everything you do to enable the team to move quickly while maintaining a high bar of excellence.

What you'll do:

  • Be a key contributor to the voice of product design at Skillshare.
  • Conduct user research and evangelize research findings across the organization.
  • Rapidly produce various concepts and prototypes; knowing when to apply pixel-perfect detail vs. when to make low-fi sketches and prototypes.
  • Design experiments that help optimize our product.
  • Present design work to business and cross-functional stakeholders and teams.
  • Help establish and reinforce a holistic experience of consistent visual design patterns across all Skillshare platforms (web, mobile web, iOS, and Android).
  • Develop and maintain continual understanding of UX design patterns and the competitive online learning platforms in the market to identify where Skillshare can innovate & pull ahead.

Why we're excited about you:

  • 5+ years of product design experience at a consumer brand. Ideally looking for someone with experience designing for content search and discovery experiences, learning experiences, two-sided marketplaces, or growth teams.
  • You are a designer with user-driven product design experience and have the portfolio and track record to match.
  • You have strong communication skills. You know how to convey your vision (both short and long term), articulate design decisions and tradeoffs, get stakeholder buy-in, and ultimately execute alongside engineering partners.
  • You're a critical thinker with a user-focused approach to making products simple enough for anyone to understand and use.
  • You understand the value of both qualitative and quantitative research and know how to leverage them to tell a compelling story.
  • You handle feedback thoroughly and gracefully, and know when to change direction vs. staying the course.
  • You have a proven ability to establish rapport, credibility and influence amongst stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive results. You proactively address and resolve dependencies across team boundaries.
  • You have experience working directly with engineers and managing clear project handoffs as well as conducting design QA before your work ships.
  • You thrive in an environment where new ideas are encouraged and welcomed.
  • You have proven experience in wireframing, prototyping, facilitation, and conducting user research (not a requirement).

Why your excited about us:

  • Our team: We have a passionate, creative, and innovative team that is a lot of fun to work with.
  • Our mission: We’re doing work that matters – connecting lifelong learners around the world and empowering them to pursue their creativity.
  • Remote culture: A healthy, productive working environment means different things for different people. We optimize for trust and invest in supporting remote teams, offer home office stipends for those that work best in their own space and co-working spaces for those that thrive in a social office environment, and focus on transparent communication to ensure an inclusive, equitable work environment for everyone.
  • Flexibility: We believe that doing your best work means living a full life. That means different things for everyone, so we optimize for trust, invest to support remote teams, offer home office stipends and co-working spaces in multiple cities, have an unlimited vacation policy (with a required minimum!), and encourage work-life balance.
  • Impact: You’ll be in a highly visible role responsible for business-critical initiatives while helping us improve the core experience for our students and teachers.
  • Your growth: You’ll have the opportunity to wear a lot of hats, collaborate with others, and take on more ownership over time.
  • Benefits: We believe that doing your best work means living a full life. We support our team with unlimited PTO, gender-neutral parental leave, anniversary sabbaticals, and healthy stipends for creativity, learning, and personal wellness.
