Senior Project Manager
Description
Smart Wires is looking for a Senior Project Manager to work closely with our utility customer stakeholders and various internal Smart Wires stakeholders to efficiently and effectively deploy Smart Wires technology in major utilities’ substations.
In this role, you will be accountable for the delivery of multi-million projects within scope, on budget, and on time. You must have a remarkable blend of relationship management, planning, execution, and organizational skills to achieve outstanding results for our customers. A vital part of the role is delivering the requirements as per the customer expectations. Key to the role is to identify project risks and issues, assessing and recognizing criticalities and contingencies. As Senior Project Manager you will need to be focused on targets and requirements, with an ability to be adaptable to meet changing business environments.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage multiple large and complex projects simultaneously while developing and maintaining good relationships with a variety of key stakeholders.
- Deliver the projects to the required quality and success criteria as defined in the project contracts and specifications.
- Analyze problems, actions, and progress issues as appropriate, ensuring follow through to resolution.
- Manage 3rd parties, acting as a routine contact point between organization and supplier.
- Provide timely and accurate status updates to key Smart Wires management and stakeholders in support of project governance.
- Serve as our internal lead and our customers’ primary point of contact throughout the following project phases: contract tendering, project initiation; planning; engineering, procurement, factory acceptance testing, manufacturing, shipping, construction, installation, commissioning, project closure and any remedial and warranty planning activities.
- Review contract conditions and ensure compliance with all contract terms.
- Document all significant project events, such as accidents, delays, and change orders.
- Estimate budgets and contract prices, track spending against budgets, and deliver projects on budget.
- Negotiate cost-effective subcontract and material purchases.
- Manage efficient and effective use of contract resources for a variety of works.
- Keep projects on schedule and deliver projects on time.
- Negotiate, prepare, and issue subcontract bid packages.
- Help identify, prioritize, and execute process improvements.
- Travel to customer sites across North America, as required throughout the life cycle of a project.
- Ensure safety and quality plans and procedures are in place and implemented that meet Smart Wires and customer requirements.
Support business development and other activities as assigned.
Requirements
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in engineering, project management, or construction management.
- Civil or Electrical engineering experience and/or education is preferred.
- 5-10 years of energy utility substation deployment experience, with passion for managing large utility and/or EPC projects
- Demonstrated experience managing and delivering projects successfully from end to end, with a proven track record for delivering work safely, on time and within budget.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent with 5-10 years of relevant project management experience and a thorough understanding of all project management control systems (scheduling, cost control, procurement and estimating).
- Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting.
- Experience of managing complex projects in a complex environment, potentially including applying remedial measures to project delivery.
- Proactive and resourceful, able to remain calm in high stress environments
- Problem solve independently and synthesize information from various sources
- Possess remarkably strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience developing countermeasures and contingency plans associated with significant project risk.
- Experience of relevant project change control mechanisms, including the transition process into operations and acceptance criteria
- Demonstrated ability to identify and manage key stakeholders
