The Opportunity

Our SRE organization is responsible for designing and building systems, tooling, and processes to provide an extensible, scalable, and observable platform. They strive to empower our development teams to own and manage their full application stack, thus minimizing bottlenecks and optimizing development velocity without compromising on reliability.

The Skillset

  • Senior level of experience in an SRE role with an understanding of monitoring, troubleshooting, and disaster recovery
  • Extensive experience in writing production-quality code
  • Proficiency with infrastructure as code and/or configuration management (we use Terraform)
  • Experience with managing monitoring dashboards using tools like Grafana and Prometheus to create actionable alerts
  • Ability to ensure the system is running and in line with internal SLIs and SLOs
  • Experience refining CI/CD processes to ensure new code is pushed to production in a reliable and efficient manner
  • Ability to collaborate on creating a robust monitoring platform for our services and their underlying infrastructure, aiming to alert on symptoms and not outages
  • Familiarity with best practices when creating and managing AWS resources (e.g. security groups, VPCs)

90 Days at Flock

We are a results-oriented culture and believe job descriptions are a thing of the past. We prescribe to 90 day plans and believe that good days, lead to good weeks, which lead to good months. This serves as a preview of the 90 day plan you will receive if you were to be hired as a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Flock Safety. 

The First 30 Days

  • Understand our current cloud build and deployment process(overall SDLC)
  • Deep dive into the architecture of the Flock system to understand how each component is interconnected 
  • Overview of Terraform/IAC
  • Overview of ML workflows
  • Overview of SRE team charter/purpose
  • Active participation in a full sprint cycle with all ceremonies the SRE team utilizes to plan work

The First 60 Days 

  • Ability to perform the role with decreased need for guidance
  • Ability to complete medium-sized tasks with little support
  • Regularly assisting in the resolution of help-desk requests
  • Regularly participates in the peer review process and meaningful technical discussions.
  • In-depth/complex understanding of various infrastructure/tooling components

90 Days & Beyond 

  • Ability to perform the role with little guidance with transparency
  • Comfortable picking up engineering tasks of larger size and more ambiguity
  • Support ongoing efforts for our current themes and goals should be a top priority
  • Converted 2-3 repos from Jenkins to GHA’s in support of the GHA migration.
  • Complete an Initial review and career planning deep dive session with your manager
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure manipulation via tooling, IAC, pipelines/workflows, and manual operations along with understanding potential side effects/impact those changes have at scale/under load.

The Interview Process 

We want our interview process to be a true reflection of our culture: transparent and collaborative. Throughout the interview process, your recruiter will guide you through the next steps and ensure you feel prepared every step of the way. 

  1. Our First Chat: During this first conversation, you’ll meet with a recruiter to chat through your background, what you could bring to Flock, what you are looking for in your next role, and who we are. 
  2. The Hiring Manager Interview: You will meet with your potential future boss to really dive into the role, the team, expectations, and what success means at Flock. This is your chance to really nerd out with someone in your field. 
  3. The Technical Assessment: Our technical assessments seek to test the hard skills required to do the job. Engineers may find themselves in coding interviews or architecture discussions, sales roles may present mock discovery calls, and leadership roles may craft 90 day plans. Your recruiter will inform you of which assessment you will be assigned and ensure you are fully prepared for your big day. 
  4. The Executive Review: A chance to meet an executive in your function and view Flock from a different lens. Be prepared to ask well-thought-out questions about the company, culture, and more.

💰Salary & Equity: In this role, you’ll receive a starting salary of $160,000-$180,000 as well as stock options
