What We’re Looking For:
As a member of the Aperture Squad, you’ll get everything from green-field development to dragon-wrangling in legacy code. We’re supporting several exciting open source initiatives while maintaining foundational services in the free-to-degree pipeline of offerings here at 2U. We’re looking for an intermediate-to-senior engineer with a passion for service-oriented architecture. We value a pragmatic, user-validated approach to building software, as well as iterating quickly to validate hypotheses about how we can improve our users’ educational journeys.
Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:
- Design, develop, deploy, and support scalable software systems
- Build and maintain operationally viable solutions throughout the software life cycle
- Commit to owning your code by supporting the customer facing environment and building a long-term architectural vision
- Collaborate with Product Management, UX, and Data Science to understand business problems and identify solutions
- Provide mentorship to team members and lead team members on project initiatives
Things That Should Be In Your Background:
- 3-5+ years of back-end or full-stack coding experience
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Experience working with Python & Django
- Real-world experience with developing and deploying large web applications in modern web frameworks
- The ability to problem solve, drive projects with loosely defined requirements, communicate with stakeholders, and learn from both success and failure
- A collaborative mindset, sharing your knowledge with team members through mentoring, code reviews, pair programming, diagrams & documentation
Other Attributes That Will Help You In This Role:
- Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks
- Experience extracting core services from a monolith
- Familiarity with open source frameworks & an interest in enabling and integrating open source contributions
- Soft skills including a people-first attitude, flexibility and conflict resolution

The anticipated base salary range for this role is ($80,000 – $125,000), with potential bonus eligibility. Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, budget for the position and cost of labor in the market in which the candidate will be hired.
