Senior Systems Engineer

We are in search of a Senior Systems Engineer with a deep understanding of hypervisor technologies, particularly VMware, to join our esteemed team. As a key player, you will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and managing state-of-the-art virtualized environments that will transform our products and clients. 

Do:

  • Design, implement, and manage virtualized environments using VMware and other hypervisor technologies
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to maintain optimal uptime, performance and capacity
  • Understand various backend storage technologies that the systems will rely on, ranging from local flash to block to object storage, and how/when to implement each one.
  • Interface with customers, vendors, and internal staff. Function as an escalation 
  • point for support staff and systems engineers 
  • Perform advanced server and network troubleshooting on internal and customer- 
  • owned systems
  • Facilitate data migrations, V2V migrations, and P2V conversions
  • End-to-end trouble ticket handling including initial troubleshooting, and resolution of escalated issues.
  • Adherence to change control process and participation in weekly on-call rotation
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support in their professional development
  • Participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support for critical infrastructure issues

Deliver:

  • Provide Level III support for advanced support cases.
  • Assist with sales & pre-sales engagements including requests for proposals, on-site and remote customer presentations, engaging with senior executive and executive customer leadership, as needed.
  • Complete tasks as assigned with an eye for ways to improve and grow the business, its products and develop personal strengths.
  • Lead hypervisor related product development efforts and assist with operational refinement.
  • Function as a subject matter expert for the team on multiple products

I'm interested...is this the job for me? We are looking for:

  • Extensive experience with vSphere, vCenter, NSX-T, ESXi, and related VMware technologies.
  • Strong application-level debugging, systems administration and performance profiling skills, particularly with hypervisor and containerized interactions – Windows and Linux
  • Object Storage experience with solutions like Ceph, Cloudian, or S3 / blob. [ED1] 
  • Strong understanding of virtualization best practices and design principles for these platforms including experience with common backup & DR tools such as Veeam, 
  • Zerto, P2V software, and VMware Site Recovery Manager. 
  • Typical “internet application” comprehension: HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, DNS, etc.  
  • Operational experience with AWS core services such as EC2, Security Groups, S3, and IAM [ED2] 
  • Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools like Prometheus, LogicMonitor, Graphana, Zabbix, etc.
  • Ability to read and write scripts with one or more: Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform

Pay Range: $131,000 - $156,000/year

Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
