Job Description: 

Softrams is looking for a Senior Visual Designer to join our Human Experience (HX) team to provide visual design and interaction design expertise throughout the discovery, exploration, build, and evaluation of transformative digital products and services.You’ll work under the guidance of a Lead Product Designer and in collaboration with other HX Practitioners (strategy, research, and design) as well as technology, product, and other key stakeholders. 

Federal Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Federal Position of Trust clearance designation. 
  • Must reside in and be able to perform work in the United States. 
  • Must have lived in the United States for 3 of the last 5 years. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degreein a related field. 
  • 5 or more years of experience working in a related role 
  • Experience in the following areas: 
  • Researching, defining, maturing, and implementing visual styles for digital interfaces, including building and maintaining design systems and documentation to ensure consistency across digital products and services. 
  • Applying Human Centered Design (HCD) and User Centered Design (UCD) practices. 
  • Creating mood boards, style guides, and prototypes to communicate design concepts. 
  • Developing and maintaining brand guidelines, aligning brand identity with business goals. 
  • Designing intuitive and engaging user interfaces (UI) and interactive elements using wireframes, flowcharts, and prototypes (ranging from low to high fidelity). 
  • Crafting visually appealing graphics, layouts, typography, and high-quality visual content for various digital platforms. 
  • Designing usable, accessible, and empowering B2B and B2C services and products. 
  • Developing custom and enhanced illustrations and generating compelling visual content for digital campaigns and social media. 
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, users (customers, agents, and business), Subject Matter Experts (SMES), and clients. 
  • Documenting and presenting design decisions for a wide range of audiences. 
  • Staying updated with industry trends, incorporating best practices into the design process. 
  • Advanced proficiency with tools like Figma, Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.), Atlassian (Jira, Confluence), and Microsoft (PowerPoint, Word, etc.) and understanding of HTML/CSS and front-end development principles and frameworks. 
  • Applying diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) best practices to HCD work. 
  • Identifying design challenges, provide innovative solutions, adapt designs based on user feedback, and manage multiple projects to meet deadlines. 
  • Working in Agile environments like Scrum, SAFe, or Kanban. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Samples of work that can show your familiarity with both research and design are required to be considered for this opportunity, this can be in the form of a presentation, case studies, readouts, etc. 
  • Preference for those with experience around usability and building 508-compliant web applications. 

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with team leads and various stakeholders to review scope and goals for design work 
  • Research, define, and implement visual styles for digital interfaces, including building and maintaining design systems and documentation 
  • Design intuitive and engaging user interfaces (UI) and interactive elements using wireframes, flowcharts, and prototypes 
  • Track priorities in the form of Jira tickets to ensure clarity, accountability, and alignment 
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies 
  • Review and discussing work from other team members 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, product managers, users, SMEs, and clients 
  • Identify design challenges, provide innovative solutions, and managing multiple projects to meet deadlines in an Agile environment 
  • Documenting and presenting design decisions for a wide range of audiences 
  • Work with frontend engineers to build and manage design assets, style guides, and design fidelity in the implemented application 
  • Stay updated with industry trends and incorporating best practices into the design process 
  • Create visually appealing graphics, layouts, typography, and high-quality visual content for various digital platforms 
  • Communicate effectively and adapt to diverse audiences (technical, non-technical) 
  • Participate in sharing lessons learned, new concepts, methods in learning events like brownbag sessions, DEMO Days and external events like meetups, conferences, and webinars

Public Trust Clearance:

This role requires the hired candidate to go through public trust clearance. A minimum of 3 years of stay in the U.S. within the last 5 years is required to be eligible to qualify for public trust clearance sponsorship. 

Work Location:

We have open-collaboration offices in Leesburg VA and Baltimore MD for those who may prefer to work on-site. However, Softrams is a 100% remote-first team environment. Softrams works in the eastern time zone and standard work hours are 9am ET to 5pm ET with flexibility around start and end times based on team needs.
