About the Position:

As an SEO Strategist, we expect you to serve as a mid-level role in our Search & Content Department. You work directly under our Search & Content Director, collaborating with the other members of your department while further developing your abilities to handle larger accounts. We expect the job to be around:

  • 50% SEO management, including keyword research, on-site optimizations, off-site link building, technical SEO, and other duties that relate to improving a website’s presence on search engines
  • 30% Content marketing, including content creation (especially blogging), editing, publishing, and other duties that relate to producing online content.
  • 15% Client communication duties, supporting our Account Executives in communicating about your work with clients.
  • 5% Always optimizing, to improve the department.

JOB COMPENSATION

We strive to offer extremely competitive compensation packages, in addition to an amazing benefits package (which is fully listed below). This includes:

  • $50,000 base annual salary paid weekly. While you should always try to negotiate a job offer, we want to let you know from the start what to expect to help avoid inequitable compensation among peers.
  • Additional technology stipend of $1,000 / year (also paid weekly).
  • SIMPLE IRA plan with 3% matching.
  • Potential additional $1,200 in earned bonuses depending on achieving your KPIs (discussed three times a year).

JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must have at least:

  • 2+ years of SEO experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling and persuasive content.
  • Knowledge of SEO best-practices.
  • An excitement to adapt your job role as AI, Google, and the Internet continue to change.

In addition, the strongest candidates will have:

  • Experience handling SEO campaigns across industries, particularly B2B, higher education, manufacturing, home services, and hospitality.
  • Proficient with SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, or similar tools
  • Previous work communicating SEO progress with clients.
  • Digital marketing certifications or a degree in marketing.
  • Portfolio showcasing previous digital marketing campaigns and content creation work.

WHAT IS OUR APPLICATION PROCESS?

  4. If you decide to move forward, you’ll do a 30-45 minute conversation with either our Search & Content Director or our CEO, followed by a timed assignment. This assignment is for fake clients, and is financially compensated.
  5. The top candidates who perform well in that interview and on the assignment have one final interview with members of our leadership and the Search & Content Department.
  6. We make an offer, and provide you with a couple days to make a decision. We expect you to start within two weeks of accepting.

JOB DUTIES

SEO MANAGEMENT
  • Oversee the search and content management of 6 – 10 of Online Optimism’s search & content accounts.
  • Perform keyword research for clients, to determine valuable pieces of content to rank for.
  • On-site optimization and technical SEO, including structured data and schema, HTML, page-speed insights, hierarchical website structure, fixing indexing errors, and optimizing content, page titles, meta descriptions, and slugs.
  • Utilize local SEO strategies to help businesses be more visible in local search. 
  • Off-site link building, including outreach, coordination, and brainstorming of creative ideas that will generate links over time.
  • Ably use SEMrush, Google Search Console, and other digital tools to optimize any written content for search engines.
  • Bring in AI tools as needed to increase the scale of your work, while being mindful of their limitations.
  • Utilize your SEO knowledge to assist leadership to improve Online Optimism’s own SEO efforts.
  • Collaborate with our new business development team as needed to provide analysis of potential clients.
CONTENT MARKETING
  • Craft engaging copy in a variety of formats for clients, including blogs, FAQs, website content, press releases, case studies, white papers, and long-form webpages.
  • Conduct external research and coordinate with clients to be able to provide unique insights to their visitors via your content.
  • Write about complex topics in a manner that target audiences can understand and evaluate, with the ability to shift tone or writing style quickly throughout your day.
  • Craft email marketing campaigns across a variety of email marketing platforms, such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Emma, and more. 
  • Edit the work of other members of the Search and Content department’s work.
  • Partner with our other departments (Digital Ads, Social Media, Web Dev/Design) to edit their work and ensure brand consistency for your clients.
  • Utilize Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and other metrics to measure your campaigns’ success, particularly focused on driving website conversions and increasing valuable organic search traffic.
CLIENT COMMUNICATION
  • Share your work with clients, explaining your process and choices.
  • Accept feedback gracefully, and adapt your work based on critiques and client needs.
  • Collaborate with our other departments to ensure that your main accounts have a consistent, cohesive brand design language across all their platforms.
ALWAYS OPTIMIZING
  • Suggest ideas, explore new tools, and take initiative to improve Online Optimism’s SEO and content work.
