Site Reliability Engineer - Music
Spotify is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our Music Vertical Platform engineering organization. You will forge new ground in how we help labels and their artists and managers, and help us fulfill our mission of giving a million creative artists the opportunity to live off their art. If you're interested in building out the next revolution in the music industry and helping artists succeed in their careers, come join us!
As a part of a reliability-focused team, you will help exemplify, measure and raise the reliability of products and operational capabilities of squads across the Music Mission organization by creating tools, collaborating with teams, evangelizing best practices, and encouraging learning across the organization. You'll work closely with engineers to advocate for sensible, scalable, systems design and share responsibility with them in diagnosing, resolving, and preventing production issues. We are strong believers in engineering teams taking operational responsibility for their products and work hard to support them in this.
What You'll Do
- Design, code, and operate tools and systems to reduce the amount of time and effort vital for our engineers to scale our products for artists, their teams, labels, and other music industry partners.
- Monitor, review, and improve the reliability of systems and practices in the Music Mission’s domain.
- Work closely with the Music Mission squads to assist them in adopting and improving their use of existing tools and practices such as SLOs, alerting, runbooks, synthetic testing, and general observability.
- Participate in an on-call rotation alongside the engineers who build our products.
- Analyze incidents involving Music Mission systems.
- Run our platform with Terraform and Kubernetes
Who You Are
- You have 5+ years of relevant experience.
- You are passionate about reliability practices and excited to help teams improve how they maintain their own reliability.
- You are familiar with the principles of site reliability engineering, such as eliminating toil, embracing risk, simplicity, and release management.
- You are deeply curious, and enjoy exploring both technical and organizational problems and domains.
- You are comfortable with large-scale production systems and technologies, for example, load balancing, monitoring, distributed systems, containers and/or configuration management.
- You have strong coding skills in at least one programming language, and a desire to pick up more. We work primarily in Java and a smattering of python and shell scripting.
- You have familiarity with and passion for software engineering best practices such as testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery.
- You have the ability to thrive in a rapidly evolving, globally distributed environment.
- You have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Where You'll Be
- We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode best for them!
