About the role

Metriport helps healthcare companies access and manage patient health and medical data, through an open-source universal API.

About us

We're a highly ambitious team of software engineers on a mission to improve global health outcomes by making comprehensive patient health and clinical data more accessible at the point-of-care. Ever wonder how your medical history travels around your various healthcare providers? Believe it or not, many providers still use fax machines - and sometimes patients die waiting to get treatment while their healthcare records are taking weeks to be faxed in. Metriport gets these same records, at a higher fidelity, in seconds.

We are looking for someone who is equally motivated to make an outstanding impact in the healthcare space, contributing directly to the world's first open-source API of its kind. We're a HIPAA and SOC 2 compliant organization, and backed by world-class VCs.

Metriport serves a variety of customers of all sizes, powering companies that are working on everything from primary care, to COPD management, to pregnancy monitoring, to weight-loss therapy, and more.

Metriport offers two core products:

  1. Medical API: allowing healthcare providers to access and manage patient medical records from Health Information Networks and EHRs in the US.
  2. Devices API: allowing digital health companies to access health data from popular wearable devices and mHealth apps, such as Fitbit, Garmin, and Apple Health.

What we're looking for

We're in search of resourceful and driven full stack engineers who have the following characteristics:

  • Ideally some experience with some the following: HL7 FHIR, C-CDA to FHIR, IHE Profiles, Health Information Exchange, RLS, MPI, EHR, Carequality, eHealth Exchange.
  • Superhuman ability to build and ship product quickly.
  • Strong desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Motivation to make a large impact in the healthcare ecosystem.
  • Growth mindset, sense of ownership, and excellent communication skills.
  • "Can-do" attitude towards technical challenges and innovation.

Our tech

We use the following technologies:

  • React / Node.js / Express
  • JS / TS / Bash / HTML / CSS
  • SQL / NoSQL / PostgreSQL / DynamoDB
  • Docker / AWS / CDK
  • VSCode / Git / MacOS

About the interview

  1. Initial intro call: This is a quick informal call to understand your general background and interests, as well as your motivation to work in a startup. This will be just a simple chat to get to know each other.
  2. Culture screen: After doing a reference check, we'll hop on a second call to assess culture fit and communication skills. Here we'll ask a few behavioral questions and get to know you a bit more.
  3. Technical evaluation: Here we'll take a deeper dive into your technical abilities, product thinking, and overall fit (how well you communicate your approach, solutions, and thought process). This interview will consist of two sections: systems engineering, and coding. For the systems engineering portion, this will essentially be some design related question to make sure you understand the "big picture" of things. For the coding portion, this will involve you diving into our full stack code base on GitHub, where you'll be responsible for debugging something, adding a feature, and creating a pull request, for example.
