The Opportunity

TrustArc is seeking a talented, experienced Software Engineer, Back-End to join our engineering team. You will participate in the design and implementation of our products that help customers discover their privacy data and assess the relevant risks. You will contribute to our data privacy management platform from inception to development and delivery, working closely with an agile team including the Product Owners, the Server Development team, and UI development team. 

What You Will Do

As a Software Engineer, Back-End, you will focus on projects that help our customers address their online privacy challenges. You will be responsible for designing and implementing performant and scalable products that help our customers discover their privacy data and assess the relevant risks, Work with the performance engineering team and develop a framework that will simulate ad traffic and model its impact on system infrastructure, and eliminate system bottlenecks and performance issues by working collaboratively with systems operations team. you will use your deep technical experience to work with and mentor other engineers. Your technical judgment and experience will help you solve complex issues with elegant designs, allowing TrustArc to deliver the product on time to meet market demand while maintaining a high-quality standard. 

What You Will Bring

  • BS or MS or equivalent in Computer Science, or a similar field of study.
  • 5+ years in positions focusing on development using Java with Spring/Hibernate.
  • 5+ years designing and implementing relational schema in a Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, SQLAnywhere, or equivalent database or any combination thereof.
  • 3+ years leading a team of engineers to build, deploy, and support high-volume web-based products.
  • Deep expertise in OOP design and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of Java’s threading and memory models.
  • Proficiency with algorithms and data structures and relevant time/storage trade-offs.
  • Hands-on development experience in distributed, microservice-based architecture.
  • Experience in data-intensive environments.
  • Excellent communication skills in both technical and non-technical settings.
  • Design and implementation of RESTful Java Enterprise platforms, built on Spring (Boot, Cloud, Hibernate, Dataflow, etc...), or equivalent web framework.
  • Experience designing unit tests using the Junit framework or equivalent framework - tests should determine the functionality or non-functionality plus the security of the platform.
  • Experience designing web-based applications and backend platforms based on business requirements and dividing projects into manageable components for phased deployment.
  • Experience debugging system errors on a production system without the use of a debugger.
  • Experience debugging programming errors (bugs) in Java or Groovy using a debugger.
  • Mentoring junior engineers in terms of design and implementation practice.
  • Experience in the development and maintenance of the unit, integration, and end-to-end test infrastructures.
  • Experience performing design reviews, code reviews, and writing documentation.
  • Experience with cloud-based IaaS providers, e.g. AWS.
  • Experience with containers, and container orchestration tools.
  • Experience developing and implementing open-source software projects.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies.

Compensation: up to $120,000 CAD per year

Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's skills, experience, qualifications and location, and applicable employment laws.
