Sr. API Technical Writer

Smartsheet is seeking an experienced Senior API Technical Writer to plan, develop, and maintain customer-facing content for the Smartsheet OpenAPI documentation and the product Help Center. You’ll work cross-functionally with the Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Field Operations to produce technical, developer-facing content that adheres to style guidelines and deadlines while being concise and clear. Smartsheet has a rapid delivery cadence, and our content must keep pace. This role includes improvement projects for the site, reporting, and internal processes.

This role is part of the Smartsheet Global Shared Services organization and will report to the Manager, Content Team. This role is remote eligible from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:

  • Immerse yourself in Smartsheet’s product line and learn the technologies and features as needed to document them accurately
  • Distill specification documents and internal technical FAQs and use the information to create targeted, quality, customer-facing content. Deliverables include but aren’t limited to:
  1. Technical articles for the Smartsheet Help website and our API documentation (how to, reference, FAQ, troubleshooting)
  2. Internal documentation
  3. Visual aids for Help content (screenshots, gifs, etc.)
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure the technical accuracy of your work
  • Drive content projects from planning through post-launch analytics
  • Review the work of other writers and mentor them as they develop technical writing expertise
  • Track and report on your own project assignments and schedule, working towards hard deadlines
  • Manage content production tasks (move content from draft document format to the content management system and publish it)
  • Review and compile internal change requests and customer feedback and use this information to recommend and implement content changes
  • Maintain the API documentation style guide
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience writing documentation for developers and IT professionals, or equivalent work experience
  • A BA in English, Technical Communication, Computer Science or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong understanding of OpenAPI specifications and related tools
  • Proficiency with technology and documentation tools such as Swagger, Redocly, Docker, Markdown, and Git.
  • Strong Command of English language, both oral and written (C1 and above)
  • A passion for technology and familiarity with the benefits and challenges of working on a SaaS product 
  • A knack for crafting great customer experiences driven by your knowledge of or experience in the customer service or support business
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and concise manner
  • A desire and ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Experience creating screenshots and/or visual diagrams to promote understanding of complex ideas 
  • Experience with content production, for example, moving a document from a draft stage in one tool and formatting and publishing it from another tool
  • Smartsheet Product Certification preferred by not required

Smartsheet provides a competitive range of compensation for roles that may be hired in different geographic areas we are licensed to operate our business from. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, level of professional, educational experience, skills, and specific candidate location. In addition, this role will be eligible for a market competitive bonus and RSU stock grant upon accepted offer.

California & New York: $124,200 to $178,200 | All other US States: $115,000 to $165,000
