The Role

As a Senior Lead API Product Manager, you will be responsible for running API products like a business from ensuring API design meets customer needs, applying governance and guidelines, managing roadmaps, and cultivating a developer experience that will delight your customers. You will have the unique opportunity to work with teams across the API ecosystem and through Lumen’s platform of products. Most importantly, you will serve as the customer advocate within a scalable API go-to-market framework.

We are looking for individuals who are dedicated to understanding and delivering on our customer’s needs; who are passionate about advancing business outcomes through technology; and who will evangelize API products through out the organization.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Establish linkage with other teams, and advocate for cross functional collaboration in establishing best practices and standardization that ensure high quality APIs are delivered to customers.
  • Ad to governance and operational support framework supporting the key business imperatives; ensuring teams are operating within established standard design principles and are receiving the appropriate requirements and support from the broader organization. Coordinates with leaders and cross functional teams to deliver API products to the Marketplace.
  • Conduct market and user research to advocate for customer needs to drive solutions that solves for challenges; ensure a customer first approach in API product design and development.
  • Effectively drive the end-to-end readiness of API products; technical and operational readiness ensuring the business strategy is executed successfully.
  • Apply formal change management practices that ensure API products are baselined at kickoff and all changes tafter are thoroughly scrutinized for justification, impact to the program and business.
  • Support the improvement of customer experience by influencing enhancements to enable self-service intended to solve customer challenges.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement to address inefficiencies and improvements in the customer end-to-end experience. Drive key learnings from launches back into the organization to support continuous improvement.
  • Educate stakeholders, support producer teams, and manage API readiness and the API life cycle.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • BS/BA or equivalent education and experience in Product Management or Product Development. Master’s Degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager for software products that include API functions. Experience in managing APIs as a product is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience using product management principles to lead cross functional, collaborative teams and drive results in a matrix-driven organization.
  • Aptitude for solving technical and operational problems while driving multiple priorities and programs and delivering against tight timelines in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with corporate governance practices, program and Portfolio Management Office environments.
  • Outstanding communications skills up, down and across the organization.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Agile IT development process.
  • Technical writing and YAML experience a plus.

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
