Who We’re Looking For

Business.org is seeking a versatile writer who brings a combination of journalistic expertise and marketing instincts to write for and about small businesses.

We’re looking for a driven, experienced copywriter who cares about user experience. In this role, you’ll dive into researching an array of verticals, take complicated topics and transition them into easy-to-read copy. You’ll produce everything from quality how-to guides to in-depth articles and detailed comparisons of tools and services that help business owners grow their company.

Business.org has built its following and authority with B2B content that ranks in search and makes conversion flawless. Thus, experience and proficiency in SEO best practices are essential, but there’s more! As we grow audiences in email and social channels, we want to expand beyond SEO. That means we are after an individual with a creative, passionate mentality to gravitate towards more topical, newsy content in the small business space.

We’re seeking a writer who demonstrates an understanding of the experiences and struggles of small business owners. We want an individual that follows trends across industries and can pitch content opportunities drawn from the news that affect Main Streets. You’ll build a rolodex of business owners and industry experts who bring authority and authenticity to your work as well as collaborate with an encouraging cross-functional team help craft our site’s strategy.

What You’ll Do

  • Research topics in the B2B space, including lending, marketing, payroll, business taxes and more, and turn that information into useful, engaging, authoritative stories
  • Pitch ideas that align with website strategy and expertise
  • Develop sources and conduct interviews
  • Maintain existing content to make sure it remains up-to-date and accurate and meets content quality standards
  • Ensure content aligns with brand voice, positioning, and project type
  • Collaborate with managing editor, brand director, SEO specialists, project managers, and designers to own strategic projects
  • Balance numerous tasks, including writing new pieces, rewrites of existing content, and smaller updates
  • Own high-priority, high-impact writing projects
  • Track and analyze the performance of content, making recommendations to improve performance
  • Stay up to date on digital marketing and UX best practices and help share standard methodologies with other team members

What You Need

  • 6+ years’ experience in journalism, content marketing, or related field
  • Established expertise in business writing and B2B, with a strong portfolio of consumer-focused content
  • Ability to quickly research and write clean, in-depth content that requires minimal editing
  • News judgment and a reader-first mentality that yields timely, relevant, engaging content
  • Solid communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to take and provide constructive feedback
  • Strong grasp of marketing trends and UX and SEO best practices
  • Excellent spelling and grammar skills
  • Solid understanding of AP style, Google Analytics and/or other analytics platforms
  • Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Airtable, or similar software applications
