About the Role:

Our Customer Experience design group is seeking a talented Senior Visual Designer to join our Design Systems team. As a Senior Visual Designer, you will lead the creation of world-class digital customer experiences across multiple platforms, including web, mobile, in-vehicle, and wearable interfaces. Your designs will touch millions of lives and set the standard for next-generation user interfaces for GM brands.

The ideal candidate will have experience in designing digital user interfaces and the ability to create a cohesive brand experience across touchpoints. You will work with a team of product designers, design technologists, and researchers to bring your designs to life.

As a Senior Visual Designer, you will play a critical role in our customer experience team by setting design direction, creating unique user interfaces, and establishing meaningful connections with customers through your designs. Your focus on customer needs, combined with your exceptional design skills, will help us craft inclusive experiences that go beyond basic expectations. Join us in making a difference through design.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and evolution of the visual design language and standards, ensuring cohesion and quality across multiple brands and platforms, including typography, color, icons, and other key components.
  • Partner with multiple Design System teams, brand teams, and partner agencies to align on design decisions across multiple platforms
  • Articulate design vision and rationale to stakeholders, present high-fidelity designs, and prototypes to foster alignment across enterprise
  • Provide constructive feedback, critique, and mentoring to designers and developers to raise the quality of design
  • Represent the team as a design system advocate in product discussions and educate others on how to use the system
  • Lead the team in creating accessible designs that follow WCAG standards.
  • Actively share design skills and knowledge, and promote best practices to enhance our design culture
  • Co-develop and define the creative vision for the evolution of the Design System in collaboration with stakeholders across the organization
  • Partner with product designers, design technologists, and researchers to develop, test, and deliver accessible components and patterns
  • Stay informed of design and technology trends and bring insights into our work
  • Create and maintain design libraries, patterns, and design documentation
  • Mentor and guide junior designers, helping them develop their skills and grow as designers
  • Lead brainstorming sessions and workshops to gather insights and drive design solutions forward

You will be able to successfully navigate those factors as you create design solutions.

Comfort with ambiguity: You are comfortable working in a space where problems and solutions are not well defined. You can cope with change, shift gears comfortably, and can decide and act without having the total picture.

Additional Job Description

Requirements

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in Design Systems, UI design, craft, and aesthetics with a minimum of 4 years of experience in creating user interfaces, digital products, or complex software applications across multiple channels
  • Formal degree or equivalent experience in Visual Design, Product Design, Interaction Design or related
  • Knowledge of user-centered design and experience in conducting user research
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills
  • Open to feedback, knowledgeable in giving and receiving critique, and skilled in defending design decisions
  • Proficient in design tools such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding and experience creating Design Systems
  • Experience maintaining relationships with brand stakeholders
  • Knowledge of and experience designing for accessibility, including meeting WCAG standards
  • Familiarity with Agile product development process

Compensation: The median level of salary compensation for this role is $90,223.08 - 144,122.52 USD Annual

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
