Together we're on a mission to power every property in the world, and to do that, we need to find the best talent in the world. That's why we're on the search for a superstar Staff Back End Engineer to join our Reservation and Guest team. The Reservation and Guest team manages core services to streamline property operations where staff connect with guests, like check in and out, managing arrivals and departures, identifying overbookings, and creating reservations. If you like to be in the center of where most information flows, this is the team for you.
As a Staff Back End Engineer, you will implement new architectures, features, and best practices to scale the Cloudbeds platform. You will contribute to new efforts in service-oriented architectures, leveraging the latest, cutting edge technologies. As a Staff Back End Engineer, your goal is to deliver an exceptional experience to our customers all around the world with quality, performance, and scalability top of mind. Alongside your team, you will leverage the latest, modern SaaS and Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies across all layers of the software stack.
Location: US and Canada (Remote)
What You Will Do:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan, build and ship high-quality features.
- Develop in the existing PHP monolith, and also design and develop new microservice based architectures in Java.
- Support a team environment where skill, knowledge and capability are fostered and highly valued.
- Drive down costs and land performance wins via impactful optimizations and infrastructure upgrades
- Support and mentor more junior Engineers, in growing their knowledge and skill-sets.
You’ll Succeed With:
- 6+ years of relevant software development experience in a fast-paced, high-growth tech environment.
- 5+ years of experience with PHP and PHP frameworks such as Laravel or Symphony.
- 2+ years experience working with MySQL/PostgreSQL.
- Tuning and optimization skills are preferred.
- 2+ years experience designing and developing event-driven microservices in PHP and/or Java.
- Experience within an organization that is focused on high availability, scalability, security, automation and observability.
- Solid understanding of secure software engineering concerns.
- A strong business sense and ability to collaborate with leadership and non-technical stakeholders on highly visible projects.
- Dedication towards observability by leveraging metrics, experiments, and prototypes to ensure decisions are data-driven.
- Strong knowledge and a passion for software engineering best practices, design patterns, and automated testing.
- Business-level English fluency required (verbal and written skills)
Nice to Have:
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS)
- Experience with protobufs / gRPC
- Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or SQS.
- Experience working with a remote-first and globally-distributed team
- Experience of engineering software for large scale solutions, utilizing modern tooling to get you there.
- Travel industry experience is a plus but definitely not required.
- Experience with front end frameworks (Vue, React)
- Experience with large scale Domain Driven Design would be great but definitely not necessary.
Compensation: Depending on your skills and experience, you can expect your annual compensation to be between $140-180K.
