About the role:
We are the Growth Engineering team - on a mission to acquire, expand and retain Samsara’s customers globally. We partner with a highly cross-functional team of engineers, marketers, product managers, and designers that create products, tools, user-facing experiences, and more that support Samsara’s growth initiatives. Our team looks to make doing business with Samsara a breeze. As a Staff Engineer at Samsara, you will be a technical leader that brings fresh ideas and expertise to guide the team’s technical design and architecture and enable increasingly complex features and customer use cases. In addition, you will build and own the experiences that directly influence our growth initiatives and partner with other highly-skilled Samsara engineers to push Samsara’s technical capabilities forward.

In this role, you will:
- Drive technology choices, implement services, and/or establish architectural patterns that have a broad and lasting impact on Samsara's platform.
- Identify opportunities and initiate strategic conversations to influence the direction of platform technology and engineering culture
- Architect, design, and develop software that enables Samsara to operate at scale
- Contribute ideas and feedback that help teams improve processes and architecture.
- Increase visibility and knowledge of operational best practices to raise the bar across the company.
- Act as a multiplier for the team, elevating the impact and output of every team member.
- Contribute to Samsara’s engineering brand by representing Samsara in external-facing forums
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- 10+ years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions with at least 2 of those years in an architect of leadership role
- Stellar programming/coding fundamentals
- 2+ years experience leading cross-organization projects
- Expertise in writing high quality, performant and maintainable code in a modern programming language
An ideal candidate also has:
- Has experience working with processes that scale well for a growing team of engineers
- Has experience working at scale, raising the bar for consistency, quality and performance
- Programming mastery in Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, or other similar languages
- Production experience working with Javascript and/or client-side code
- Enjoys enabling cross functional collaboration between product, design, marketing, and engineering with different focuses (frontend, backend)
- Experience scaling Growth and/or E-commerce applications
- Experience with of any of the following tools: Stripe, Contentful, BigCommerce or similar products
Samsara’s Compensation Philosophy: Samsara’s compensation program is designed to deliver total compensation (based on role, level, and geography) that is above market. We do this through our base salary + bonus/variable + restricted stock units (RSUs). RSUs are awarded at hire and may be refreshed annually. Additionally, as a pay-for-performance company, there are additional RSU grant awards for top performers which allow employees to achieve higher market positioning.
The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
$145,600—$227,500 USD
