The Staff Systems Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to clients for their physical and virtual data center infrastructure. This includes identifying opportunities for the use of technology to improve business efficiency, performing system implementation, and providing support for clients’ server and storage environments. Seeking candidates who are interested in datacentre consolidation project that would include hybrid design.  

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead engineer role and subject matter expert for all company owned sites.
  • Implementation and Support of VMware vSphere virtualization solutions with a small team of regional full-time engineers.
  • Confidently explain complex technologies to all levels of leadership
  • Develop and maintain clear and concise documentation of all datacentre infrastructure as it related to virtualization and storage.
  • Report into Director IT Virtualization daily with updates on platform health, project tasks and team performance. 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Effective communication style to transmit information to team members, cross-team as well as leadership.
  • 10+ years' of virtualization experience supporting a large VMware environment
  • Skill in GCP, GCP Networking and GCVE
  • Cisco UCS M6, M7 hardware
  • Dell / EMC VXRail
  • In-depth knowledge of VMware, AD Group Policy, and network storage
  • PowerShell Scripting, RVTools and Terraform or equivalent automation experience.

Key technical skills

  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
  • Cisco UCS experience.
  • Strong network background.
  • HCI – Dell/EMS VxRail or Cisco HyperFlex.
  • Proven ability to keep pace with latest technologies and skills.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), or equivalent, are a plus.
  • Windows AD user and security administration .
  • Advanced knowledge in VMware Networking, data stores, backup, DR replication, vSAN and SANs.

Desirable technical skills

  • Hungry and eager to learn new technologies and curiosity to seek out new opportunities for professional growth.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues efficiently.
  • 8 – 10 years VMware vSphere Design experience.
  • 8 – 10 years VMware vSphere Implementation experience.
  • 7+ years General Server hardware design and support experience.
  • 7 or more years of VMware experience.
  • VMware vSphere 7.0 or higher , vRealize operation manager .
  • Desire and ability to work as a team and as well as independently during core hours, overtime as needed for projects or on-call duties.
