About the Role
The Athletic is seeking an energetic self-starter with enthusiasm for collaborative work to join our Creative Development team as a content creator focusing on how-to-watch guides and other content related to streaming coverage of live sporting events. The successful candidate will have a willingness to take on complex tasks big and small as they work cross-functionally between editorial, sales and business development to help support long-term partnerships.
This role will be remote for candidates located in the United States or Canada only.
Responsibilities
- Research, write and edit multiplatform content related to coverage of live sporting events.
- Ensure we’re meeting content integration obligations related to partnerships.
- Partner with Creative Development, Editorial, Sales and Marketing teams to execute new content experiences that drive subscriptions, engagement and revenue.
- Collaborate with the newsroom and the rest of the business with a particular focus on long-term partnerships in the media/entertainment world.
- Collaborate with our business development and sales teams on key revenue-driving initiatives that require editorial contributions.
- Assist in communication between key editorial and HQ stakeholders to ensure alignment and coordination on key initiatives.
- Liaise with the Analytics teams to help with planning and implementation of content strategy and to monitor success metrics.
- Partner with newsroom leaders and commercial teams to own IP across various platforms and content types.
- Communicate results to internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- 2+ years of editorial experience, ideally in sports environment.
- Clean, skilled writing skills in long-, medium- and short-form formats.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- A hustle-first mentality — this business and industry move quickly.
- Deep sports knowledge.
- A passion and understanding of The Athletic, our talent and our content.
- Thorough knowledge of the journalistic process.
- Critical thinker who can provide productive input about content promotion, partnerships and product.
- Operational experience an asset.
The annual base salary range for this role is $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
