About the Role

The Athletic is seeking an energetic, motivated writer for our daily National Football League-themed newsletter. The ideal candidate will be creative and driven to produce an exclusive, premium product through collaboration with the NFL staff of editors and reporters, while offering their own opinions, analysis, reporting, interviews and research. The successful candidate will be required to create samples of work to be evaluated by hiring managers.

This is a remote-based position in the United States or Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Write a daily, NFL-themed newsletter with a strong, distinctive voice that highlights The Athletic’s best work, adds perspective to current events and informs readers.
  • Collaborate with the NFL staff to produce content exclusive to the newsletter.
  • Assist with the big picture, conceptual vision for the creation and development of this product.
  • Work with edit staff to create a distinctive, compelling and authentic voice for the newsletter.
  • Maintain an understanding of key success metrics both for the newsletters and The Athletic site as a whole, and a desire to connect with the audience.
  • Edit and publish newsletters via our send platforms and digital executions of the newsletter via The Athletic’s CMS.
  • Work with the newsletter edit staff to make sure all advertising executions and promotional copy are delivered according to schedule.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years of professional writing experience, preferably with demonstrated reporting ability.
  • Expert-level knowledge of professional football.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NFL Draft as well as fantasy football.
  • Thorough knowledge of the journalistic process.
  • The ability to distill and summarize large amounts of information and reporting into tight copy.
  • Ability to write and edit accurately and quickly at a high level.
  • This role will include evening work and potentially some early mornings, as well as weekends.
  • This is a remote-based position in the United States or Canada.

The annual base salary range for this role is $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 USD. The total compensation offered for this position may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, and location. It may also include non-cash rewards and benefits. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
