Gusto’s tax specialists play an integral part in all things payroll product. As Gusto scales and expands, these Gusties are consistently relied upon to collaborate with our engineering teams to build world-class features. Team members must be eager to function as a sole source of operations expertise, help design and implement complex systems, and synthesize ideas into action to solve pain points both internal and external to Gusto. Prior experience with payroll systems and/or payroll tax filing is strongly preferred. Individuals should have excellent technical documentation skills, be comfortable speaking the business language of a variety of stakeholder teams, and be able to independently manage their workload. Excellent organization and critical thinking skills are also important for success.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Prioritize new features and system enhancements using risk assessments, impact analysis, and monitor and report on our progress on metrics and goals
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Google Sheets (Excel), SQL is a plus
  • Dynamic problem solving skills. You combine depth of Gusto product knowledge and creativity to help deliver impactful features
  • Document requirements and communicate to internal teams promptly; ability to effectively lead meetings and drive results
  • Train cross-functional teams on upcoming product changes
  • Identify ways to improve our systems, processes, documentation, training and communications; offer input to strategic business planning
  • You thrive in fast-paced, get-stuff-done environments - and can easily juggle multiple priorities and projects
  • Customer-service mindset, and support our customer care advocates and engineering teams with impeccable research and documentation

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience in Tax Operations
  • Strong results-orientation and direct experience in utilizing data to identifying critical trends and make/influence critical decisions
  • Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to pull data directly, analyze large data sets, and identify business insights from data.
  • Familiarity with issue management systems such as JIRA.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate complex subjects to both technical and non-technical audiences at all levels.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $35.10 in Denver & most remote locations, and $41.69 for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate location, experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
